I mean, when a thread like 'I want to punch this in the face' is getting that much attention you know things are bad. The old guard, that came for the discussion and new comics focus and the podcast, is no longer interested in keeping the jerkoffs at bay. Why keep feeding their tripe? The true forum community comes out in celebratory threads. That's not enough to warrant keeping it going. You'll find the focus will sharpen on Facebook.
I disagree. I think people are being respectful to each other, and the negative threads are ones I check on to make sure that people are being polite to each other...or at least nothing I could call HR about.

The forum I frequented before this one, (Barbelith, which started as a fanhub for The Invisibles) spent it's last four years in lockdown because one person had become a troll, and there were endless "Is Barbelith Dying?" threads until all anyone talked about was the forum itself and if It Was All Over. And, as comics sales in the 90's will show, if all you do is gaze inward, eventually you have nothing to offer anyone outside.
Is the community as good as it was in the Golden Age? Nope. That happens. The first 150 episodes of CGS were like the Velvet Underground album. Most of the people who were around back then have started their own podcasts, moved to other forums, drifted away from comics, etc... and there hasn't been a huge influx of new people because Forums Are Generally Passe.
So, what is the purpose of the forum? THAT is the question to answer. Is this a promotional things for the podcast? Is it a corner bar for us to hang out in where everybody knows our names? Is it just another place to post geeky conversation?
Once you decide that, then you move forward. As a Moderator, I don't have the time to guide conversation as much as I used to, but I chime in, I clean up spam, I do a little bit of rapping on knuckles with a ruler, but in the end, the forum is in a different phase than it was a couple of years ago. The Boys will determine what happens, and I will live with it. I have had a lot of incredibly great memories here and with the people I have met through this forum. I don't think forums will ever be big again, and I will be here until its not here any more.

From the geeks POV it might be promotional. For the rest of us, the latter two.

Jeesh, man. Sometimes I wonder if you're the real Peter Rios. You've easily been the most negative poster on here. I've had agreements and disagreements with people on here, but I've never taken anything personal. And I see almost everyone else behaving the same way. Yeah someone will disagree with the crowd sometimes, but they don't take it so personal or want to just blow everything up. I've written a rant or two that I'm sure people didn't agree with, and I've also read a fair number of rants from other people that I didn't agree with. Oh well. You take what you can get, say your piece if you want to say something, and move on. There's still obviously a sense of community here. It's not like it was 6-8 years ago, but it's still okay. (And I WAS around for that; I am a very longtime listener and was at least somewhat active on the previous forums, under a different name.) For a podcast that "only" puts out two episodes a week, I think the message boards connected to that sort of operation are still pretty good and definitely active enough to warrant staying alive!
I don't really get where you're coming from with the huge negativity anymore. The (ex-)Geek you had a problem with is gone and doesn't post here anymore. Nor does the host of that other podcast post here anymore either, telling CGS that they're "too negative on Marvel Now" (or whatever he was saying with a condescending critique of every episode a few years ago). So, what's the problem? The show isn't as poppin' and successful and popular as it was when YOU were in charge of it. We know. You did a great job back then and CGS caught a nice zeitgeist wave. But you're not helping things now by dive-bombing through the message boards every so often to insult the community that's left. Looking at the responses you choose to give, it's like you look for opportunities to make as much of disagreements as possible.
Most of us still like you overall, man, so it's just baffling to see you so negative. We all have good memories of you and many of us (myself included) have had very positive interactions with you in the past. You don't seem like the same guy anymore. The exception is your "New #1s this week" threat, which was a good idea.

I've followed podcasts from message boards to Facebook-only status before and here's what happens: The "threads" are all together with no sub-boards, in reverse chronological order, so everything is a big mess, with Episode postings getting lost between random posts that members throw up. You'll get a lot of posts that are just links or photos. In-depth discussion and content are a thing of the past. Right now I'm typing in a big text window and everything in the thread and forums is linear. On a Facebook screen I'd be typing in a tiny little bubble, with a million links all around me, with notifications popping up and friends of mine saying things, and a chatroom on the side. It basically trains you to post only blurbs or a sentence or two, whereas on a message board people can easily type and digest sentenceS and paragraphs. I still follow the Facebook page of some podcasts I like, because that's their only online presence. But there just isn't much there.

I never saw the thread before but just had a look at it. I saw over a dozen forum regulars, some of the names I've recognized for years, talking about pop culture. Was it the super-deepest thread ever? No, but threads like that about what people like or don't like are pretty damn standard in fandom and have been forever. Must be Peter was personally offended that some people were naming movies he had different opinions about.
Speaking of Facebook, I was just thinking today that the CGS Facebook posts aren't showing up on my newsfeed anymore. I know there's some trick to making them re-appear but I've never actually done that for anyone.
A horror podcast I use to listen to shut down their forums a few months back. Telling everyone to use their facebook group instead. And most of the posters just gave up.
A Facebook group and a forum are totally different things. I prefer a forum. And have been a part of the CGS forums since almost the beginning. \
And cause I am a mod at a forum I have seen how much work running a forum can be. But this place is one of the better places to talk comics. Sure I wish there was more talk about indy comics. But the CGS forums are still most of the time a nice civil place to just bullshit comics and related stuff.

Does CGS (the geeks) run and control a page (only)? If so, then you are correct.
If not, or they additionally have a group, we then theoretically could have discussions there.
