Haven't read the interview and complicit might be too harsh a word -- benefited certainly fits. Our country's inability to have frank discussions around racism, how it is the foundation on which this country was built, how it still permeates society today, is why I think we've been unable to make the meaningful strides forward that could have allowed for a proper healing, or at least a more widespread healing, of the deep wounds these atrocities have caused. I applaud Lindelof for his willingness to bring up the topic and his understanding that racism and white supremacy are still problems today. Deflecting with derisive sound bites like "brainwashed cult member" certainly aren't a help. But I might be a pinko-Commie-snowflake-SJW. What're you gonna do?Sounds like a pretty horrible thing to accuse someone of, right? No Lindelof said he -Lindelof - was complicit in white supremacy. Now unless he’s been unwittingly supporting the kind of racists where such an extreme term - and all it connotes - would be accurate, it’s only reasonable to assume he believes most of us - including Moore - are also “complicit”. (The rest of the interview only reinforces this.) I don’t want to support the work of someone who talks like a brainwashed cult member.

It’s been a while since I’ve been on the forums, it’s been a busy time. And I have some exciting news...
I finished my first novel, after two years of writing. Then, literally the day after I finished cleaning up the third draft I became a dad for the first time to a beautiful baby girl. It’s been a pretty good month, to say the least.

Episode 1744 Talkback - BOMC: Daredevil: Born Again
It was the worst of times for Daredevil; it was the best of times for his readers! It was 1986, and comics auteur Frank Miller was making his second pass at writing Marvel's Daredevil series, accompanied this time by master draftsman David Mazzucchelli as artist. What Miller accomplished over seven revolutionary issues (Daredevil #227-233), collectively titled 'Born Again,' was the total decimation of Matt Murdock's life and Murdock's subsequent triumphant resurgence, in a masterful tale steeped in hardboiled crime fiction and Christian allegory. Join our CGS literary circle (including Doctors of Daredevology Chris Eberle and Kevin Moyer) in an examination of this deft deconstruction and reconstruction of one of Marvel's iconic characters. I too love Zero Hour. With it's mostly blank cover, issue #0 could be considered the first sketch cover comic:
Did I miss mention of the upcoming Zero Hour Omnibus? That looks quite complete and very interesting.
I'm not sure what hypertime image Murd was trying to identify from Flash #50. He mentions it shows Wally sitting in a wheelchair grieving for his lost abilities and the cover saying "You are about to witness the most tragic day in the life of Wally West." He then says "If Pants were here he could probably tell us exactly which issue this is from." If I saw the image in question I might, but here are some clarifications:
The Wally in a wheelchair comes from Flash #131:
The "tragic day" cover is from Flash #76:
Excellent detective work Peter on finding that "lost" pre-crisis Monitor appearance in World's Finest Comics #314!
The Retroactive issue that was "very intimately tied to Crisis" is DC Retroactive: Superman - The 80's.
The new story in the issue was written by Marv Wolfman and should certainly be talked about in the future.
I skimmed the Superman Special #3 and the only mention of Crisis I saw was the solicitation in the DC Check List for Crisis #1.
It was fascinating to hear about the Wolfman interviews from the time of Crisis where he spoiled some of the major points of the story before they were even published!
A wonderful episode gentlemen and I'm very much looking forward to Interlude the Second in early 2029.

Re: Episode 1730 Talkback - Batman (1989) Retro Movie Review
Great episode, guys! It was wonderful to hear Matt & Shane back behind the mics. This was a seminal experience for all of us comic fans "of a certain age," (looking at Shane & Mr. Eberle, now). The fact, at the time, that it broke out from our little pop culture niche and became so ubiquitous was a little bit surprising, and it felt good. Not only did it "legitimize" our fandom, but, personally, my younger sister became so enamored of it (there wasn't a fad she didn't latch onto, back then) that I purchased the VHS for her, as a Christmas gift, knowing full well that I would own it within six months. She did, indeed, tire of Batman, and I did, indeed, take possession. Best gift I ever got her!

Even though I rarely post anymore I do like that this forum is still around.
I kinda stopped reading most modern comics,plus wasn't getting along with a regular poster here. So decided to take a break.
About a month ago started checking the forums again. Saw that the poster I didn't care for rarely posts anymore.
Anyways.. just wanted to thank the geeks and the posters here for so much. When CGS started I had given up on comics. Started listening to the podcast when episode 6 came out. And from then until mid June 2007 I listened to every episode.
I suffer from bad Social Anxiety disorder. It got so bad that besides work I never left my home. Discovered that by putting episodes of CGS on my mp3 player and listening to them at a loud volume I could go out in public and not have panic attacks.
Then in the fall of 2007 had a string of bad luck. Went from working my dream job to having to quit the job for health reasons. And not long after that ended up moving from right outside Houston to a tiny town about an hour south of Jackson MS. And where I moved to there was no broadband internet. With it taking up to 6 hours to download an episode of CGS,I was having to be very picky about what episodes I downloaded.
Hearing about all the fun the geeks and others were having going to cons I decided to try going to a con again. So in 2009 ,for the first time since 1995, I went to CoastCon. And as was the norm back then when I wasn't at home I had a bunch of CGS episodes to listen to. Had a blast at Coastcon. Even found a dealer with 10 cent comics.
In May of 2012 finally broadband Internet made its way out to the extremely rural area I live in. So once again I was listening to every episode of CGS. Ended up on Matt's spin-off show,the Conan episode,and that made me really want to do a podcast. And a year later Asshat Podcast started. I only released 29 episodes. And the show ended mostly cause my two main co hosts got too busy to do the show.
Around that time I also had a disagreement with one of the CGS crew. This and Jamie D's passing are the major reasons why I stopped posting here and stopped listening to the podcast.
Anyways thanks to the Geeks and the great posters here I have managed to learn how to cope with crowds. And thanks to encouragement from Jamie D and others I have spent lots of the past 5 years doing video and commentary work for 12 indie wrestling feds in 4 states. Got to meet and talk comics with Jerry the King Lawler. And May 4th 2019 my "cousins",Ultimo Gallos and Felix Navy Dodd,are going to be ring announcer, commentary and backstage interviewer for a new Lucha Libre indie wrestling fed.

Yet another fabulously entertaining Spotlight episode from podcasting's most genial and deferential duo (you guys remind me a bit of Mac & Tosh from the old Looney Tunes shorts)!
Namor is a special and enduring character, and I thank you for covering so much of his vast history. However, due to the limitations of your audio format (and no video version of the podcast), I thought I'd contribute a little visual addendum to your coverage.
THE MANY FACES OF NAMOR: Subby's loyalties weren't the only thing to shift over the years. More than any other superhero, the Sub-Mariner's physical appearance has varied so dramatically, has been so consistently INconsistent (or, as we say in the biz, "off-model"), it truly has to be seen to be believed....which is where I come in.
First of all, here's Subby as those of us here in the so-called "modern era" know him. Taken from two of my favorite covers, we've got Namor's green Speedo look alongside the regal dark-blue jumpsuit he often wears. Both looks are consistent in their general look (wrist bands, ankle wings, arrogant body language), yet there is enough variation in his eyebrow arch, hairline and head shape to hint at the eye-popping permutations of earlier times.
In this snippet from his first cover appearance (Marvel Mystery Comics #4, 1940), Namor's facial features and head shape look fairly normal, with his pointed ears and angular eyebrows the only sign of his exotic heritage. Ah...but check out that funky light brown hair...an odd look for a character better known for a steely-black head of hair.
By 1941, Namor's face begins to take on a much more exaggerated, almost elvish appearance, as seen here on the cover of the second issue of All-Winners Comics. Topping it off (literally) is a crop of fiery red hair (must have been from all those fights with the Human Torch)!
Four years later, on the cover of All-Winners Comics #17, Namor's face had become so elongated...so harshly angled, that it looked more like an African Fang Mask than the regal undersea scion we met back in 1939.
Incredibly, like some sort of Golden Age Michael Jackson, Subby's already bizarre face became even more crazy and extreme by 1946. As you can see in these excerpts from All-Winners Comics #19, Namor's head became an eerie, utterly inhuman abstraction.
Forget about his human/Atlantean heritage...by this point, Namor looked like a cross between an alien, Dick Tracy villain Flattop, and Charles Burns' Big Baby character!
Mercifully, the post-WWII collapse of the superhero genre yanked this rather demented version of Namor off stage. After a several year hiatus, the Sub-Mariner briefly resurfaced during the mid 1950's...this time with a much less cartoonish cranium and a major league hatred for Commies.
Following this brief return, Namor once again vanished from the newsstands... and wouldn't return until Stan Lee and Jack Kirby reintroduced him in Fantastic Four #4 (1962). So...with his transition to the more refined Silver Age of comics, Namor's bizarre facial distortions became a thing of the past, right? Eh....not quite.
Oh, and before I wrap things up, I wanted to post an excerpt from FF #9 showing Namor as a Hollywood mogul. Murd mentioned that he'd never seen this story, so BEHOLD! The Avenging Son sporting an ascot and cigarette holder!
