Who do you think is the Greatest Supernatural Detective in comic?

As those on the novel thread know, I've been on a Dresden Files marathon where I hit upon this question

'Who exactly is the greatest supernatural detective in comics?'

I've got a list myself that seemed to just expand on and on.

So, add characters I've missed and try and pick the best one. When that happens I think I'll try and get a poll up so we can figure it out.

The List

John Constantine, Hellblazer, Vertigo
Harry Dresden, Dresden Files, Dynamite Entertainment
Hellboy, Hellboy, Dark Horse
BPRD, Hellboy/BPRD, Dark Horse
Lobster Johnson, Hellboy/BPRD/Lobster Johnson, Dark Horse
Sir Edward Grey, Hellboy/BPRD/Witchfinder, Dark Horse
Deadman, Deadman, DC
Mina Murray, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vertigo
Solomon Kane, Solomon Kane, Dark Horse
Ghost, Ghost, Dark Horse
Ghost Rider / Johnny Blaze, Ghost Rider, Marvel
Ghost Rider / Danny Ketch, Ghost Rider, Marvel
Blade, Blade, Marvel
Hannibal Kane, Marvel
Bloodstone, Marvel

Does Archie from Crossgen's Ruse count?

Does Detective chimp count? And would you consider Dr. Fate and the Phantom Stranger "investigators"?

Batman. The answer is always Batman. :)

From that list, I'd put Constantine up there, definitely.

The greatest supernatural investigators are the Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service, of course, but I realize they may not be as widely read as the above names.
  • Hellboy. The answer is always Hellboy. :)

Chance Falconer from James Robinson's Leave it to Chance
  • Zatara

Doctor 13...he's so steadfast in his Scully-ness that magic doesn't work on him. Also, hot daughter*

    G-men from Hell.

    *well, pre-New 52 anyway

Detective Chimp would be first on my list.
  • Well, she is not in comics (yet -- look for that in 2013), but I would give the nod to Misty Johnson, Supernatural Dick... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004HB1WFK

There is one, and only one, supernatural investigation team to rule them all:

    Fred Jones
    Daphne Blake
    Velma Dinkley
    Norville Rogers
and a certain Great Dane (no not Marmaduke!) we all love.

Detective chimp would count @random73, but I would consider Dr Fate & Dr Strange as societies first.

I also changed the thread's title to 'detective'. It's more about discovering & solving mysteries than spell power.

Anyone from any publisher at any time would work, for me.

BTw, after reading Artifacts #19 I think Tom Judge neededs to be added to the list. Any conjecture?

If you're going to throw Pezzini in there you should also throw in The Magdalena (Patience)

    Detective Chimp.
  • Yeah, I gotta go with Detective Chimp. I mean, he and Batman consult each other, so he's gotta be up there.
