I used to say, "Aw hell, it's Heck!" when he'd show up on a book.
Took me growing up to appreciate his brilliance.
People are strange, sometimes, about the reasons they dislike artists, though. I had a roommate who disliked Joe Kubert's art because "he makes people's faces look dirty" (referring to Kubert's crosshatching for cheekbones), and I knew someone else who hated Gil Kane's work because he felt that Kane's figures looked like people who had been flayed alive. (He also hated the Kane 'upshot' where you were sometimes looking up people's noses.) But I think these people were obsessing over one or two details and not seeing the entire breadth of the artist's work.
