Who are your top 25 artists (inker/penciler or one person that does both) of comics?

1. Yes you can a few writer/artists to the list.
2. Add a few titles by the artists (inker or penciler) name that you enjoy.
3. You can list it as a penciler/artist team if you so choose.

    Nice to see some love for Don Heck. I remember as a kid, he was much reviled by most readers. One of the old guard who got pushed out to make way for the younger guys.

    I was one of those revilers as a kid.

    I used to say, "Aw hell, it's Heck!" when he'd show up on a book.

    Took me growing up to appreciate his brilliance.

    I never understood why some fans didn't like Heck. I always loved his work, especially if he could get to ink his own pencils. He had a nice eye for glamour and drew beautiful women, and when he drew Iron Man, his men and women looked like they stepped out of a fashion magazine. For a long, long time my friends and I considered him to be the Iron Man and Avengers artist. There were times when his work could be a bit off, but sometimes that was due to an incompatible inker, and other times I would just attribute it to an off day; most of the time, I thought his work was lovely.

    People are strange, sometimes, about the reasons they dislike artists, though. I had a roommate who disliked Joe Kubert's art because "he makes people's faces look dirty" (referring to Kubert's crosshatching for cheekbones), and I knew someone else who hated Gil Kane's work because he felt that Kane's figures looked like people who had been flayed alive. (He also hated the Kane 'upshot' where you were sometimes looking up people's noses.) But I think these people were obsessing over one or two details and not seeing the entire breadth of the artist's work.
