  • and that has not already been nominated by one of the Geeks, will become the official "Listeners' Nominee" in that category on the final ballot.
so we better await YOUR nominations first then

What this means is, if the top listener-vote-getter in a certain category has also been nominated by one of the Geeks, then the nominee with the SECOND-MOST listener votes will automatically become the Listeners' Nominee in that category--unless that nominee has also been nominated by a Geek, in which case the nod goes to the nominee with the THIRD-MOST votes, etc.

So don't worry about our nominations; the listeners' voices shall be heard no matter what! Besides, if you wait until you hear our nominations, it'll already be too late to submit your own, so go ahead and vote now!

A last question before I hit that send button

May we share our nominations in this very thread? Or might that provoke some form of collusive behaviour?

Unless @Adam_Murdough would rather we didn't, I would say go for it. I suppose there is a risk of groupthink, but in years past I have relied on discussion to remind me of great things I forgot I read this year (or that I forgot came out this year!)

By all means, share your nomination lists here, if you feel so inclined. It's tradition! :)>-

    Voila!

BEST NEW HERO (debut in 2013): Miss America Chavez (Such a complex character, and she fit in perfectly to the Young Avengers dynamic.)

BEST NEW VILLAIN (debut in 2013): The Builders (They are much more menacing than I initially thought they would be)

BEST NEW COMIC (first issue shipped in 2013): Young Avengers (SO MUCH FUN)

BEST LIMITED SERIES (last issue shipped in 2013): Avatar The Last Airbender: The Search (a series of trade paperbacks, but a limited series of them at that. I'm constantly impressed by how well Gene Yang grasped the characters of the animated series with his work. I can literally hear his words coming out of the mouths of the voice actors with each page.)

BEST CLIFFHANGER/MOMENT: The X-Men of the future's arrival in X-Men: Battle of the Atom

BEST STORY IN A SERIES OR MULTIPLE SERIES: X-Men: Battle of the Atom (The Best X-crossover of the last ten years, EASY)

BEST SLEEPER/SURPRISE HIT: X-Men (I'm not a big Brian Wood fan, but this series continues to surprise me as to how good the story, character development and overall flow is. And the art by Coipel and David Lopez certainly helps that.)

BEST ONGOING COMIC (doesn't need to have started in 2013): Saga

BEST GRAPHIC ALBUM (OGN or reprint collection): Hawkeye, Vol. 1: My Life as a Weapon (Gotta pick it, bro. Know what I mean, bro?)

BEST WRITER: Brian Michael Bendis (I honestly wanted to pick someone else for variety, but the combination of Uncanny X-Men and All-New X-Men is too hard to pass over for him)

BEST ARTIST: Jamie McKelvie/Mike Norton (Their combination on Young Avengers makes it one of the most unique titles around art-wise)

BEST WRITER/ARTIST: Comfort Love and Adam Withers (Rainbow in the Dark, y'all!)

BEST INKER: Steve Leialoha (Fables. 'Nuff said.)

BEST COLOR ARTIST: Rob Guillory (I had to put him in somewhere, since he does the colors, inking and pencils on CHEW and it always looks gorgeous)

BEST LETTERER: John Layman (He has done the lettering on the entire series of CHEW along with the writing. The hidden gems in each issue are as much due to Layman's letters as they are to Guillory's art.)

BREAKTHROUGH TALENT OF 2013: Kris Anka (My favorite new artist. Period. His character designs, costumes and work ethic are top notch and I can't wait to see his X-Men on a regular basis.)

@i_am_scifi this feels like me being the nerd police, but I bring it up more to make a recommendation: America Chavez actually first appeared a few years ago in the excellent and under-read miniseries Vengeance by Casey and Dragotta. She was part of a team of young heroes in that book, and the vibe and energy of that book is actually something like the recent (excellent) Young Avengers series. But it was a mini with a weird name and $4 price tag and I am not surprised most people missed it. Worth finding in a bin, online sale, or via Marvel Unlimited, though. Some great reading.
