Hugely discounted DC comics subscription (one year $13.99)

Discountmags.com

I don't work for them and have never used them, but this, like the online deal a year or two ago, is a pretty great deal for those interested.

Wow! That IS a great deal, but I wonder what happens if you subscribe to Nightwing and DC cancels it in a month?

they'll probably swap you over to batman and robin or something similar

i had a sub to ultimates and when it ended they kept me going with ultimate spider-man

i'm assuming they have a similar practice at DC anyway, my teen titans sub still has an issue or something to go

Does discount mags do Marvel titles? And if so, is there a link?

Do you guys recommend any of those DC titles as true must-reads? I haven't bought monthlies in a long time but at that price I may just do it. And I have 8 hours to decide, it looks like.

I broke down and subscribed to a couple. These two books plus the new Sinestro book will bring my monthly DC titles up to 3.

I'll tell you that Green Arrow and Aquaman are always top of the stack books for me. For about $1/issue why not try it? I've heard lots of love for Wonder Woman, so I'm giving it a shot.

Nice! Thanks for the head's up. I'm probably going to get a subscription to "Batman & Robin". I generally like the series well enough.

I actually got a subscription to "Batman" from discountmags about 8 months ago for nearly the same price. Shame they aren't offering the title this time around; probably because it's been established at $3.99.

For me I've always found that Marvel's mail subscriptions work better because they use heavier mailer boards. Most of my DC books have always arrived a little dinged up. This was so 10-15 years ago, and it's remained the same today. I currently subscribe to "Batman" and "Wonder Woman" this way, and "Batman" usually arrives with a couple dings in the spine. "Wonder Woman" usually arrives in borderline NM condition, even though that series has flimsier covers.
  • I’m on my second subscription to Aquaman through Tanga, which offers the same discount every few months. It’s the main reason I’m still reading it.

I’m not really picky about condition, but of the 16 issues I’ve gotten through the mail, only a couple have had significant dings.

Back in the early eighties, I had a few Marvel subscriptions (ASM, Marvel Premiere, Star Wars) and they were simply wrapped in new/butcher paper, no backing whatsoever. The comic reader in me never cared, but the collector (sometimes speculator) in me now looks back and cringes at the many times I got the book half curled in the mailbox. The first time that happened I remembered that Marvel promised "all titles mailed FLAT!".

    ...cynicism took root that day.

^Yeah, I've heard a lot about those days in the '80s when comics were mailed in brown paper bags or whatever, like they were porn or something. Sounds like a fun time! :)

Growing up in the '90s, I didn't care too much about the condition of my new comics. My Marvel subscriptions, though, would almost always arrive in NM condition during the '90s. I might even say they were NM+. I think maybe one out of 200 would have a slight ding in it. I never even thought about their condition, and had no reason to worry. These days maybe 1 in 10 will have a ding in it, even though the backing mailers are basically the same thickness. With DC nothing has changed: in the '90s their mailer boards were flimsy as hell and they're just as flimsy now. Non-existent protection. About half of the comics will have dings in them. But, for new comics, I don't care too much. I've never got a subscription copy that was so bad I wanted another, better copy.
