Glad I saw him jam with various bands at the Montreux Jazz Festival. He was a living legend. His musicianship certainly was "powerful enough to turn goat piss into gasoline". RIP.
Going to have to listen to some Stax stuff today. Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn where just live fuel when they played together with Booker T. Great Great Stuff.
As a bassist this was sad news for me. Dunn was one of the greats who elevated the instrument beyond being just "that other guitarist who stands in the back next to the drums". Like a lot of people, my first time seeing him was on The Blues Brothers, but then I got talking with my Dad about this band he liked called Booker T. and the MG's and next thing you know we're scaring up a copy of "Green Onions" and the rest was history...

Booker T and the MG's that is some good tunes right there. Green Onions has been one of my favorite tunes since my high school jazz/blues band days.
