Woverine and Cap & Black Widow, fine. Amazing Spiderman though? It would take about 30 years of double shipped issues to hit 700 again. I'm not that big of a stickler for continuity but a lot of people cherish that run. I think it's a mistake.
Marvel just keeps making it easy for me to drop titles as they give me jumping off points. I don't mind the numbering thing, I am done with the pricing and shipping shenanigans though. I love the Marvel characters dearly, but I'm not doing this anymore.
Wait, didn't they initially say certain books like Spidey and Daredevil wouldn't be getting new #1's in Marvel Now?
I didn't even know there was a Black Widow series haha. Spiderman I am a bit surprised, but it really doesn't bother me, marvel will have it back at regular numbering at 800 or 1000 no doubt about it, and its only a number anyways.
Yeah, I am not one who cares about the number. Although I will pick up an issue X00 because they are normally nice anyone can read this issues. I don't really see the point of having two Cap books going at the same time even though I enjoyed the teamup book format they have used lately.
An $8 comic book!?! Wow! Let me hop in a time machine and show that to my younger self. But I guess 104 pages is like 3 comics. As far as the numbering they can still tack on the issues later as they approach 1000 and renumber.
I'm not going to lie & say this is going to get me to stop reading Spider-man (that happened back with Brand New Day,) but this certainly would not get me back reading.
Why can't they just tweak things in the current series rather than relaunch/reset it? I understand new #1s sell, but doesn't good quality stories also sell...and longer? I'm soured on this whole notion that by relaunching & renumbering will get all these new readers. I still stand by my claim that Marvel & DC will pick up a fraction of new readers, but they are mostly just pulling "from the same gene pool" of readers. They're just being reallocated.

I agree w/ you Matt but the big 2 want the big bucks (Marvel has Disney wanting a return on the investment & Warner Brothers/DC Entertainment wants the same for DC Comics). Marvel sees DC w/ the new 52 & the loads of new readers at least in the beginning & Marvel wants to do the same thing w/ their new #1s only spread out over a series of months (a smart idea) w/ more money in their pocket for Marvel Now! (aka lets copy DC).
The thing that has me off Spidey is the $3.99 pricetag per issue. I feel I get my Spidey fix spending 15-17 bucks for a trade once in a while. I will get the new NEW Amazing Spidey #1 if it heavy discounted at DCBS but likely will skip the monthly fix again to trim my budget as I transition to trades/collected editions by early 2013.

I wasn't just pointing at Marvel, I didn't agree with DC doing it either. In the end, I guess the definition of "new readers" is sim antics. To some, that's anyone who hasn't picked up the title before (ie, I am not a Superman fan, so if I started reading new issues of Action Comics or Superman, I'd be considered by some to be a "new reader")
To me, a "new reader" is someone who's never collected comics before, not a specific character or title. I don't believe the DCnU really got that many new readers (using my definition.)
You know... since we're talking about issue numbering and all that... it just occurred to me today while reading the latest Avengers offerings, that the upcoming Avengers #1 would have been Avengers (first series) #600. Provided the numbering was continued through New Avengers (first series) and the current run of The Avengers that's just wrapping up. I'll have to double check it, but I believe it's so.
i'm sorry guys this Amazing Spider-man thing is my fault. I have never collected ASM en my entire comic collecting history. i have recently heard some really great things about what Dan Slott has been doing so i decided to start picking it up. I put it on my DCBS order starting with #694. i havn't even gotten it in my box yet. But since every title i like inevitably gets cancelled I was not surprised when they announced ASM ends with #700. just FYI Uncanny Avengers is doomed as well.
