I had to put some thought into the fifth one. The fourth one came to me this morning while listening to the podcast and the top three, especially number one, was no brainers.

    5. Havok – the original outfit – very simple yet absolutely stunning

    image

    4. Magneto – purple costume – again, simple yet dramatic

    image

    3. Donna Troy – star costume

    image

    2. Wonder Woman/Diana – when Artemis was temporary WW – I absolutely LOVED this outfit and wished DC had the balls to stick with it a little longer or better yet, pass it on to Donna Troy.

    image

    1. Storm – Mohawk and leather, baby! I had to get use to this costume but in time, it grew to love it. I wish someone would revisit that look at some point.

    image

    Honorable Mentions:

    Donna Troy – red costume

    image

Jean Grey as Phoenix – green and yellow, especially the belt sash

    image

    Nightwing
    image

Wonder Woman WITH PANTS – Jim Lee’s a wuss for not sticking with the New 52 promo shots. This would’ve been a great updated look for Princess Diana; still a lot of the iconic look we’ve become familiar with one striking difference.
I’m including the JL shot because it’s the best pic I could find with the pants look

Full disclosure, my three favorite costumes of all time do belong to the icons. Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman all have such simply elegant and iconic costumes that they've withstood the test of time (until last year, that is). Nothing beats the Trinity.

However, my top five not including them are...

    1. Captain Marvel
    image

    2. Firestorm
    image

    3. Doc Samson
    image

    4. Power Girl
    image

    5. Flash Jay Garrick
    image

Runners-up for me include Kid Flash, Black Adam, Mon-El, Colossal Boy, Lightning Lad, and Vampirella.

  • Loved this episode and thinking about who would be on my list. Much like Mike, I avoided the iconic characters or characters where I liked multiple costumes. I have a list at the end of this post of characters that I think look great in almost every costume version I have ever seen them in. Here are my top 5:

    1) Indiana Jones
    image

    2) Jack Knight Starman
    image

    3) Red Robin
    image

    4) Tempest (Garth)
    image

    5) Havok (90's X-Factor costume)
    image

Okay, now the list of characters who I think they almost always have great costumes. Some characters are iconic and some are just characters I have rarely ever seen a costume they where that I didn't like them in. I also put some of my favorite looks next to them:

    1) Batman - Black & Gray w/ yellow Bat Symbol, Batman Beyond, Batman 1,000,000
    2) Spider-Man - Blue & Red, Black costume, Iron Spider, White & Black FF
    3) Green Lantern - Hal's traditional, Kyle's original look, John Stewart's mostly black modern look
    4) Superman - traditional red blue & yellow, exlectric blue & red, Superman 1,000,000
    5) Captain America - traditional, Ultimates version
    6) Cyclops - Jim Lee design, X-Factor look, Age of Apocalypse look
    7) The Flash - Wally West costume, Kid Flash, Dark Flash
    8) Dr. Strange - traditional look, The Stranger in Midnight Sons, Long Red Trench Coat

Loved this episode. I always love the top 5 episodes.

    05. Robin (Tim Drake original) I've always thought this was the best looking Robin costume. It took all the colors and themes of the original costume and modernized it. I loved the ninja boots and the "R" logo that seconds as a throwing star.

    04. Silver Centurion Iron Man. I've always thought this particular Iron Man costume was just really awesome looking from the design to the color itself.

    03. The Flash (Wally West) I've always liked the Wally West Flash costume. It was a bit darker red with a more stylized yellow thunderbolt and I always liked this updated version.

    02. Green Lantern. I've always liked the Hal Jordan Green Lantern costume. I liked the colors and just everything about it.

    01. Black Costume Spider-Man. This costume to me was just amazing. Sleek and simple. I always thought this was the coolest looking costume.

    Alternates:
    The Original Spider-Man costume
The Black and White Fantastic Four costume
    The Wally West Kid Flash
NIghtwing (The Blue and Yellow costume with the gliders on the armpits)
    Captain America

More "Top 5's"? What is this, Newsarama?

...seriously, at any given time you can go there and they will have at least one "The 10 most/best/worst..." column on the front page. I don't know why it bugs me so, but it does and I avoid the site now, it seems to "sensationalist." Maybe it's also because it feels so definite and there's no way for people to add their reaction.

Btw, Mike, I actually like that idea.

    @Dman,
I agree with you on the Jim Lee version of WW with pants. Wish DC would have stuck to their guns on that one.

    Top 5, Top 5 Lists!
  • Excellent episode. For some reason, I expected the show to be about the top 5 costumes you had seen done as cosplay.

I think mine might have been:

    5. Brown & Yellow Wolverine
    4. Mysterio
    3. Judge Dredd
    2. Batman (Rogers/Aparo style)
    1. Iron Man (JRjr/Layton style)

    You really should!!!

When I saw this episode posted I wasn't sure what to expect. But unloved the show.

For some reason my mind went to these...

    1. Any of the Ghostbusters
    2. Indiana Jones
    3. Any batman
    4. Iron Man
    5. Earthworm Jim

A bit random I know. But I love all of the above. I've never seen anyone dressed up as earthworm jim. But I'd love to see it.

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for this outfit
    image
It's like he rolled Timerwolf for his clothes
  • Love this episode!
    5. Moon Knight - so bad ass

4.New 52 Jason Todd Robin. I loved this update, if they ever put robin in a movie, this should be the costume in my opinion.

    3. Nightwing ( 90's Blue and yellow w/o the disco collar. I think it was in knightfall mostly)

    2. Modern Hal Jordan green Lantern

    1. Superman - New 52 Jim Lee Design AND the Jeans and T-shirt look. I know this one is controversial, but I really love both of these new looks. To me, Superman has the most iconic costume, and the new suit ( in my opinion) keeps the awesome regal nature, and drops the hokey elements (like the red trunks).

Back ups that I could interchange with any of these depending on my mood - Iron Fist , N52 Flash, Connor Hawk Green Arrow, 90's Steel, N52 Batman,

I remember reading in an interview with Cockrum somewhere that his plan was for Wolverine to wear this costume permanently. But Wolvie had already become a "big deal" in the Marvel Universe, so the editors shut him down and had him revert it back to the then-current version.

After listening to this episode, I tried off of the top of my head to figure out my favorites that were NOT already mentioned by someone. Because of the "alternates" that many listed, that was hard, but I came up with...

  • Great post, @Dman - I totally agree! I loved the Wonder Woman with pants/without jacket look. I want to buy a Wonder Woman action figure for my girls to play with. I refuse to give them one that's just wearing underwear down there. I may buy the New 52 figure and just paint dark blue pants on it.

Storm, Nightwing, and the two Donna Troy costumes would be on my list as well.
