New Round Of New52 Cancellations

CBR announces the cancellation of four NewDC books: Blue Beetle, Grifter, Frankenstein: Agent Of SHADE, and Legion Lost.

That leaves room on the schedule for new titles: Justice League Of America, Threshold, and the new Superman title. Which leaves one more in the offing?

And I'm not seeing G I Combat in the new solicitations; was this one already cancelled!?

I'm not reading any of those. Picked up a couple of issues of Grifter, but it's hard for me to stick with books about peripheral characters when there's so much other good stuff to buy.

Yeah, GI Combat was cancelled a few months ago I believe. I am surprised with Frankenstein being cancelled. It was the first title leaked today. I was thinking "Why couldn't it be Blue Beetle?". Threshold seems interesting. The backup story with Larfleeze interests me a lot.

I had reluctantly dropped Blue Beetle a few months back, and I was still barely holding onto Legion Lost. Frankenstein was one of the few books I thought was really kicking, so I'm sad to see that one go.

Grifter I never really cared about.

I hadn't heard of the cancellation of G I Combat, so I'm sad to see that one also going away. I thought the Unknown Soldier strip was shaping up, and I'm enjoying the current Haunted Tank strip, drawn by Howard Chaykin. I guess there's no real current love for the war comics.

I do like how DC is getting rid of low selling titles and trying something new every few months now. There are some titles (looking at you savage hawkman) that should start walking up to the chopping block in the spring.

I think the conventional wisdom here is that they're going to let Hawkman float a little while longer because of his connection to the new Justice League Of America title, and hope that sales and readers might cross over.

And now I am down to one mainstream DC book, Team 7. Well at least I have more money to spend elsewhere.

GI Combat is ending in Dec. Not a great loss there. I tried it for a few issues and quickly dropped it.

I am a bit gutted about some of these cancellations though. They seem to be cancelling some of the books I'm enjoying most. First Omac, then Resurection Man, now Frankenstein. I hope Demon Knights isn't next for the chopping blocks.

Not reading any of the other four, although I've always been tempted by Blue Beetle, but never picked it up.

That said I am intrigued to see what replaces these four. JLA will be one, which I'm looking forward to. Threshold replaces GI Combat. That leaves three. Assuming Superman is another that still leaves two holes. What will fill these??? I'd like to see a Brave and Bold type book. Something where the more obscure characters can be seen. DC Presents sort if dies this, but they're always multiple issues. I though National Comics would cover this sort if stuff, but that seems to have ended. Maybe Brave and the Bold will fill this niche. That would still leave one book... SHAZAM maybe???

There have been rumors of a new Superman/Batman book.

Not sure how that would work in the new continuity.

The recent National Comics were just a bunch of one-shots... more like a mini-series of one-shots, actually, if such a thing is possible.

I enjoyed a couple of those one shots. I'd like to see something more permanent.

I liked Kid Eternity -- which surprised me -- and really, really disliked Looker. I'm not yet sure about Rose & Thorn...

I enjoyed Rose and Thorn but mainly because R&T were among the very first comic book characters I ever remember reading way back during the first war against Jerry when they first came out. :)

Apparently, Blue Beetle had worse sales than Firestorm. Don't worry... if sales don't pick up soon for Firestorm, it could soon join BB in Cancellation City, maybe even in the next round. Meanwhile, BB will be a part of the new Threshold series.
