Marvel to Reduce Premiere Hardcovers

The Bleeding Cool is reporting Marvel will be reducing the number of hardcovers.

In a private retailer interview with Diamond, David Gabriel has told retailers that they will be reducing the number of Premier Hardcovers, restricting them to Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Avengers, All New X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova, Uncanny X-Men, Uncanny Avengers, and Indestructible Hulk followed by the paperback six to eight months later as standard. Other books will get the trade paperback treatment earlier.

I generally only picked up the premiere HCs when it was a "classic" tale or a collection of a character I really liked (I'm surprised we got TWO Cloak & Daggers out of them, for example). I'm glad to see they're cutting back on them, but I'm hoping it won't be a 100% goodbye to the classic collections, which is what it sounds like it is.

And if it is, like I said, my wallet will at least be happy.

I really enjoyed the classic collections too. It sort of felt like they were drawing story lines out of a hat sometimes but it really made for an interesting mix of HCs.

Spider-Man taking a backseat to the likes of Guardians and Nova seems a bit odd. Does he not sell well in HC's I wonder?

when i initially read this thread title I thought it said Marvel to Reduce Price...imagine my disappointment.

It could be the frequency of the issues coming out for the title may discourage the Prem HC model for Spider-Man. I do not know if Superior Spider-Man will continue the double shipping model of Amazing.
