American Elf is Ending and I got to shoot a News story about it.

I work in local TV news and it's not often that my work life and hobbies intersect, but James Kochalka's strip has been staple in Burlington VT where my station is located, so as the only comic fan on staff I got to interview James as he winds down 14 years of his daily diary strip. Here's a link to the story.

And here's a link to the strip from the day I shot it.
It's the closest I've ever come to making it in the strip!

Have been enjoying the American Elf on my Galaxy for quite a while now. Good stuff.
  • Last strip went up last night. It's over and I'm a little sad.

That's awesome! (Not about the strip ending, but about you being able to intersect your work and hobby in this way, and get "in" the strip.)
  • It was really great. James is a really nice guy, who really appreciates the exposure. I normally work with a reporter, but we were short staffed that day, so I did the actual interview. I was really nervous about it but he made it really easy and I'm pretty pleased with the results.

Sounds like an awesome experience! And while I'm sad to see American Elf end, I think James brought it to a close in the most perfect manner possible - no giant goodbyes or events, just some quiet observations.
  • I agree and it's not like we'll never see his work again, but I'll certainly miss the strip. James did say he would be working on a new strip soon and that "the American Elf" would be back at some point, though not as a diary strip, but possibly in a sci-fi setting, which could be really fun
