DC needs to pull their head out of their ass!! I was fully on board with them when the new 52 launched. Now I find my self dropping more titles every month! Thank god for Snyder on batman or I might be out all together!!

If Snyder was off of Batman, I'd buy more Batman titles.

What were the sales on Superman Family Adventures? Were they poor enough for the title to be pulled, or was there another reason given? I note that there's concern that the Green Lantern Adventures book might also be pulled (though it hasn't yet been concerned), meaning that, perhaps, the entire all-ages line could be in jeopardy.

What were the sales on Superman Family Adventures?

    According to Comicsbeat.com on 10/24,

211 - SUPERMAN FAMILY ADVENTURES (Johnny DC)
    05/2012: Superman Family Adventures #1 -- 13,303
    06/2012: Superman Family Adventures #2 -- 10,137 (-23.8%)
    07/2012: Superman Family Adventures #3 -- 9,246 (- 8.8%)
    08/2012: Superman Family Adventures #4 -- 8,925 (- 3.5%)
    09/2012: Superman Family Adventures #5 -- 8,572 (- 4.0%)

Disappointing but understandable with those sales numbers. It is a money making business and sometimes the quality stuff just doesn't make money.

I'm guessing those are direct sales numbers; a lot of the Johnny DC books do much worse in the shops. If bad sales are the reason, then they must not be doing even worse in the newstands and mainstream markets. If not, then the Cartoon Network shows must be tanking; tie that in to the rumor about the GL Adventures book also getting the chop and the weird TV scheduling.

My son is not going to like this either. Those numbers are just wretched. Doesn't everyone get weary of seeing mediocre books continuing to be propped up by sheeple while fun, kid-friendly (and adult friendly too!) books like this fall by the wayside by the truckload?

I'm ready for us to rise up as one and start slaying people. :)

Keep in mind that those numbers are likely direct distribution numbers of the sales through comic shops, and do not reflect sales through mainstream outlets like book stores, newstands, Walmart, etc. These numbers are always low because the general comic shop patron is not the audience for these titles. These books, like the Johnny DC titles, make their money through the Newstand Distribution, and those numbers aren't as available as the Direct sales numbers.

Seriously, most of the all-ages books that pop up on the Direct list have historically had lower numbers than these without being cancelled. I suspect other reasons for cancellation -- like, perhaps, a failure of the entire DC Nation concept on the CN, perhaps, and a decision to sweep it all away and move on to other money-making projects. (This is speculation on my part, based on the CN's recent wonky scheduling of the DC Nation and rumored cancellation of Green Lantern Adventures.)

I think you are right on about multiple factors, and it is a business. It is just such a shame that there isn't a place/way for quality underachieving books to thrive/survive. If they did a quarterly anthology with other characters and creators I'd enjoy that as well. Throw all the kids line into a large 100 page book, like the manga black and white big books. I would probably be more dutiful in picking them up on release days instead of trade waiting. Sorry guys, the reason these books all have such low numbers is that I am not buying most of them monthly anymore. I take full responsibility for the downfall of comics.

Yep, I told my daughter about it last night. At first it didn't seem to bother her and then it started sinking in.

I wasn't a subscriber of this title but it's sad to see kid friendly titles get cancelled.

Funny just yesterday I got a comic from DC and it had a 50% subscription to all kids books, and Superman Family Adventures was on there I do believe. Sucks great all ages books can't stick around.

I read it with my son EVERY night. He's only three, so 12 issues will be more than enough to worry about a concept like cancellation, but as a Dad and HUGE fan of the book, I'm a bit crushed.

They don't carry much, but they did have the Avengers Year One with the Avengers movie (only at Wal-Mart) and they did carry Walking Dead trades when Season three started in late 2012. Not much but it is something.

You are right. When season 3 of WD started my local Walmart got in the first Compendium. And it was put in the kid's books section. Just like last time they got in Walking Dead trades and put them in the kid's section,I told the person in charge of that area how just because it is a comic it isn't for kids. Pointing out the Mature readers warning on the cover. She moved them next to the regular books. I come back 2 weeks later and they are in the kid's section again. So this time I informed the manager. "They are comics so they get racked with the kids books."

Well when season 2 started and they had some of the trades. After I had informed the manager about how they shouldn't be in with the kids books. I was there looking at a magazine and heard a woman screaming at the customer service desk. "YALL SOLD VIOLENT PORNO TO MY 8 YEAR OLD SON". And she was waving around a copy of a Walking Dead trade. Now I don't put all the blame on the trades being racked with the kids books, the parents should take a look at what their kids are buying. I know I always made it a point to see what comics, books, magazines, etc my youngest son is buying.

Let's see I check the book section and around the registers. Outside of a few copies of Walking dead trades when the new seasons start. All they ever have is Archie Digests.

I know that the last time I visited a local Walmarts -- something I generally avoid doing, as I have no love for the chain -- they had a comic spinner there. I suspect it might be a choice made independently by each store... although, even as I say it, that doesn't sound right.

I just hope DC has something else in the works for Artie and Franco...those guys are soo great. We listen to every episode of their podcast (Awyeah Podcast) with John Siuntres from WordBalloon and buy every comic tied to them because they're such positive and entertaining people.

See none of the three Walmarts in this area have a spinner rack. I haven't seen a spinner rack in any non-comic shop, since the mid 90s. And I take back what I said earlier I now remember maybe once a year finding a single copy of Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comic mixed in with the magazines. When I first moved here 7 years ago they would have issues of the Marvel Adventure titles and some assorted manga trades. But after a year that stopped. I thought at first it might just be the store in my town. But I goto the Walmarts in the next two towns, which are much bigger towns, and again all they have is Archie Digests. And finding even those digests are hit and miss.
