Art and Franco of Tiny Titans, Superman Family Adventures and Patrick The Wolf Boy fame have met almost half of their goal and the first full day of the kickstarter isn't over yet.
I wish Art & Franco luck with their new DC title, but they are doing ABSOLUTELY the right thing in starting their own thing. In a landscape where Superman Family Adventures is cancelled and there are 12 X-titles (not including solo books), if you truly want to do something different--something that makes comics FUN--you have to go your own way. I actually teared up when I saw how many put in at the $100 level and up. Most of the rewards for even the $200-$500 level have been met. As far as I'm concerned it's a direct indictment on Bob Harras and Bobbie Chase.
My son has learned to read, looking at Tiny Titans and Superman Family Adventures. My daughter can't wait for each new issue. Now what do we do? We go to Image. Or Boom. And these kids go from being lifelong customers of DC to whatever randomness they're interested in.
If you DO believe that comics should be fun, and that we are depriving generations of current and future comics readers from HAVING fun, you should give to the kickstarter as well! Not a spammer or affiliated with Baltazar/Franco in any way, but I just love the look of excitement in my son's eyes when I pass him a Superman Family Adventures, and it saddened me to no end that DC cancelled it.
Has anyone been getting the Aw Yeah books? I've been trying to pick them up whenever I can (just got 3 and 4 at Wizard World Chicago), but it's been a bit tough since it's not distributed by Diamond. And I can't always get out to Art & Franco's store up in Skokie.
I know they are available digitally, if that is your thing. On ComiXology.
Yeah, I've picked them up digitally, but my kids are a little young to be trusted with a tablet, so I usually get them the floppies. They also like to have them around to flip through whenever (floppies also mean they're reading instead of playing Angry Birds or Candy Crush).
Anyway, I asked them at their WW panel if they'd planned on getting distribution and they basically said, "At some point." Wouldn't have a problem with that if there was another relatively easy way to get the floppies.

I finally bit the bullet and gave to this one at the $60 level. I hope my son likes this one too--he loves Tiny Titans and Superman Family Adventures.
