Flashpoint Movie to kickoff Animated New 52Goodbye Bruce Timm universe. Goodbye classic story lines. Said to be all new, all the time. Next movie is tr first arc of Justice League.
I wish instead of doing this, they had started a "New 52" line of novizations. Oh wells...

I think the blog piece ends with a question that has a false premise- 'which classic DC saga are you sad to not see animated?'. Clearly he is tryi g to bait some response and outrage, since that is the currency of most people that blog or report about comics.
But look at that quote from someone who works on these: 'there may be some exceptions'. To me, they are highlighting/marketing the connectivity between the Flashpoint feature and Justice League:War. But I don't think they are actually saying they are closing the door or doing pre-New 52 stories. Having a Flashpoint feature that kicks off other New 52 features to increase connectivity is not the same thing as them saying "only New 52 from now on".
Edit- looking at the quotes in the story again, it may be that there is more connectivity in the look of the characters, and clearly they are taking this opportunity to switch to a new (likely cheaper) voice cast. And those might be consistent across the various features (and casting continuity is likely the thing Romano would best be in a position to talk about more than from what era the stories come from). And the director of Flashpoint makes it clear the end of his feature is a lead-in to War. But I don't think that all amounts to the summation that Bricken makes that all older stories are now off the table.
As usual, he chose the interpretation that would most provoke the longtime fans, as he knows that New 52 pushing out "classic" stories is sure to get shared and commented on. But the quotes he is working from don't go that far.
We know for a fact the upcoming films won't be all based on New 52 stories. Only one of the three films in 2014 will be. The other two are based on a 2006 Batman comic and supposedly the Arkham games.
Like James Tucker recently said, The Flashpoint Paradox will sort of work like Flashpoint did in the comics. Flashpoint ushered in a new continuity, while The Flashpoint Paradox will usher in a new direction for the animated films as the torch is passed from Timm to Tucker. But, the new films will not be explicitly based on any New 52 stories. He said you might see new costumes and designs that mirror the current comics, but they're still going to be pulling from the decades of DCU material that they've always pulled from. I've seen no evidence otherwise. Again, look at the line-up for 2014. Maybe some will be based on these new stories, but not all of them. I said it in another post, and I'll say it here. WB puts out 3 animated films per year. There simply aren't enough worthy storylines in the New 52 for them to be able to turn out 3 movies based on them each year.

I don't mind the N52 look and feel. But I don't feel like they HAVE to adapt the storylines just because. They should be free to make their own cartoons, in the style and similar continuity of the N52
The problem is, for those of us who have been reading comic for decades (I am at around 29 years reading comics) and have loved the previous versions of the DC universe and devoted so much time and money to it, it is hard to just move on and be quiet when we see what we believe to be an inferior product being produced.
Now, as for these movies, I'd consider at least watching Flashpoint (since I didn't read it), but I see they kept the same BS Batman ending in it that prevented me from reading the series after it was over to begin with!

To the topic of the thread, it makes sense. Even after the original Crisis, toys and promotional materials still kept some of the pre-Crisis imagery. The same will happen with the new movies. After some thought, it hit me that, even though some have said the new Man of Steel movie is an "Elseworlds" Superman, in actuality, it IS Superman. It's the comics that are, to the masses, the "other" Superman. No matter if we like it or not. Just like these movies will be the "real" DC characters. Everything else, like all those Jose Luis Garcia Lopez tumblers and tshirts, will be echoes of something else.
Maybe a thread of DC (or whatever) gripes should be started so that we negative nancys can complain in peace and the positive peters of the world will know to stay away =;
Once you come to grips with being able to move on, its so much easier to accept the changes.

I think it's just as important to get on about the stuff that you feel falls short of any mark of quality or expectation rather than sit back, roll over or passively grant it a rubber stamp of approval if you really don't feel that way. And if there's enough negative feedback to actually register on any publisher's consciousness to the extent that they might take steps to make fixes -- which, of course, is never a guarantee -- then all the better.
- The first seven or so issues of N52 Justice League would make a great animated movie. Justice League vs. Darkseid. 'Nuff said. You can take all that extra time an animated feature allows to give more exposition, more action, more everything.
- Consider making stuff out of some of those already canceled properties. Blackhawks sucked as a single issue series, but held its own in trade format, and would like make a nice alterna-GIJoe property. Everyone hates Liefeld on Hawk & Dove, but we don't hate Hawk & Dove. I could see that being a good one-shot. And...of course...bring back the damn Legion!
- One-shots for Aquaman and Wonder Woman, based on their individual titles. With good animation, not fly by night stuff. Give me the Trench. Give me Black Manta. Show me The Others. Give me Diana fighting the Gods.
It's very easy to kick DC while they're down, but I won't throw the baby out with the bathwater. There's still a few things they're doing right.
A good Blackhawk series or trade :)
A non Liefield Hawk & Dove :)
Aquaman animation =D>
Wonder Woman animation :x
Bringing back a good Legion [-O<
The Quality airfighters?
The DC adventurers?
The red-and-green clad action heroes?
The gimmicky super-heroes?
The Chaykin WWII Socialists?
The post-Crisis air freighter service?
Or the New52 mercenary pretenders?
Of course any animation attempt would be seen as a "poor man's GI Joe" but it'd be fun to see them try it, anyhow.
Or hell...why not do all of them? Start in the WWII era and show how the Blackhawks have "evolved" over the years. Maybe an aged Lady Blackhawk recounting all her years on the team as she hands the reins over to the "new bunch".
If I want to read what DC has to say about the New 52, I will go to their site and read their PR message. If I want to know what PEOPLE think about the New 52, I will come here. There is as much (more, actually) positive as there is negative about the subject here. I am not a fan, but I value and respect the opinions of others.
I think what he's saying is, you brought up the idea of why do some people feel the need to complain about DC or the New 52 and why can't they just ignore it. So, what he's saying is that that is kinda what the forums are for. Not JUST that, but forums are a place where people can go go to talk about things. For instance, I can't complain to my wife about the New 52, and I can't really praise them either because she would have no idea what I'm talking about. I mean, i could say something, but it would be a very unsatisfying conversation.
So, I think what he's saying is the forums are a place for people to vent if they wish. Like, over in the Man of Steel discussion thread there are some people who really did not like the film and others who did. It would be kinda limiting if all the fans just told all the non fans "hey, go away. Ignore the movie if you don't like it. Let us who do like it talk."
Besides, where the hell am I supposed to express all my anti new52 views if not here!? They looked at me funny in the supermarket, the bank teller didnt care, and they flagged me as "off topic" on the Future Farmers of America forums.
Again - as in the old days, other posters can turn things around. Don't respond to the haters. Post as if you never even read their posts. Turn the discussion to what you want to talk about.
And might I suggest to CGS: update the Vanilla Forum plugins to include an ignore feature. That'll go a long way to drown out the people making these threads into boring retreads of the same whiiiiiiiiiiining.
Love and kisses. :)
