Anyone a huge Fu Manchu or Black Terror fan?

As I start planning out the next couple Comics: With or Without Pulp shows, I'm kicking around a couple characters to focus on next. I'm trying to find a guest cohost for Fu Manchu & the Black Terror. Before I go beyond this forum, I wanted to see if any poster was a huge fan & willing to assist.

If you're interested, please DM me.

Thanks,
M

I remember having seen some Fu Manchu stuff when I was a small boy (scared the shit out of me) - don't know Black Terror. Anyhow. Looking forward to your next show.

All I know about Fu Manchu is the stuff on Master of Kung Fu. Tried reading a couple of the novels and they are so amazingly, over the top racist, I couldn't get through them.

Yeah, I’m pretty much with you on that. Fu Manchu is the original Yellow Terror villain, but what else would you expect from a turn-of-the-century working-class Brit writer who publicly claimed to be a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn?

I love the visual, but I'm not an expert on the character, publishing history, or the publishers themselves.

I’m with you on the costume. For my money, it’s one of the best Golden Age superhero costumes. I’ve read one or two of the stories, and they’re okay for the time.

If you want more info on the Golden Age history, check out Alter Ego #61 and #111, which both focus on Nedor (an imprint of Standard) and its heroes, including Black Terror, which was Nedor’s most popular character.

Also, be sure to include the Tom Strong appearances and the Terra Obscura mini-series from Alan Moore’s ABC line. I really liked that take on the Nedor characters. And incidentally, the ABC stood for America’s Best Comics, which was also the name of one of Nedor’s titles in which the Black Terror appeared.

I'm going to get that issue of Alter Ego. Thanks.

I absolutely adore Terra Obscura. For me, it's up there with DC's Golden Age and the first two Liberty Files books and Marvel's Marvel's Project and Patriot.
However, I was very disappointed with Dynamite's Project Super Powers. Ross's updated designs were fun, but that story was a convoluted mess.

I do know this about Standard/Nedor. Alex Schomburg did the lions share of covers for their super hero books. Schomburg might be the king of bondage & horrific racial stereotyping. There is no doubt that these books were published during WWII.

Well, Elmer Wexler did a lot of their covers in ’41, ’42 before Schomburg was brought in, but after that, yeah, Schomburg was their main guy. But his Nedor covers were, on the whole, far more tame than his Marvel covers.

All I know about Black Terror is the Eclipse series and Project Superpowers. I have a bunch of scans of the Golden age stuff. But have never read it.
