This is a good rundown. I'm guessing that someone out there is working on a better list.
As for the Superman by Chris Robinson issue above, another reason he left was because JMS left after 4 issues, didn't leave ANY notes, just a commitment to a 12 issue story, and JMS gets a writer's credit and royalties for the issues Robinson wrote on his own.
THAT is the story that turned me against DC editorial, and shows an utter disregard for the people who actually create the comics they make money off of.
On the off chance that I won't get a sarcastic "What good will that do?" type of response here, and taking a leap at trusting my fellow geek community here...
I ask because I'm going to write an open letter to DC and try and spread the word about it. The links are to make sure the points I'm making are as 100% rooted in "fact" as I can make them (well, as factual as internet information can be) before going public with my letter.
Will it change anything? Probably not. But I'm a HUGE DC fan. I love comics in general, I love Marvel. But my love for the DCU eclipses all others. And to be as down and disheartened by the way DC has been doing things (enough to leave them all together) means something is SERIOUSLY wrong at the masthead.
Which isn't to say that my opinion is the end all be all gauge for determining if DC is doing badly. I'm just saying...I can't be the only comics fan out there feeling somewhat down about all of this type of news from DC.
Thanks for keeping us on track David. I appreciate it. I was going to say something, but I was just happy to be getting some responses, didn't want to say the wrong thing.
I've written my open letter to DC Comics and posted it on my blog. I would like to state here that this is not an attempt to get hits to my blog (in fact, I'm not sure how much longer I'll keep the blog going). I'm doing this PURELY because DC Comics is the REASON I love comics. Their characters are the ones who got me hooked in the first place. I LOVE DC.
But what they're doing is killing me and I want them to know it. And I want them to know I'm not the only one. And I want them to come back to what they were. It's not the best thing I've ever written and it's not without it's problems. (I'll be editing it tomorrow a little bit to include some of what I said above)
But PLEASE share it far and wide and comment on the post itself...JUST IN CASE someone at DC reads it. Who knows? Maybe it'll change things. It probably won't. But I had to do something. This was the best I can do. Now I can step away and be content to let whatever happens...happen. READ THE OPEN LETTER HERE!
And DC had been loyal to James Robinson through a lot of shall we say "lean years" for him. Do you remember Gay for - I mean Cry for Justice?
I liked Cry for Justice. Mikel and congorilla were a neat team up. I like Freddy as Captain Marvel. Arsenal (I refuse to call him Red Arrow, it's a stupid frakking name) is one of my long time DC favorites. Yeah, there was a lot to like in that series. For me anyway.
