I am a Yankee fan, born and bred. I love that I saw many of his games in person and that he was a Yankee as he amassed that impressive career. Blasphemy warning ahead: Stop with the farewell tours please! If this is a sign of what will happen when Jeter retires, God help us all. None of these guys sought this attention in their careers, why drown them in it now? Save it for the induction ceremony. I will not cheer for Big Papi when he goes out and I just don't get the media's (or maybe it was MLB or the Yankees) need to bury us with this stuff.

I initially understood Sox fans "saluting" a worthy adversary when he came to Fenway. One of my favorite GI Joes issues from Marvel's run had the same thing. After a while, it became overly done.
The whole honor tour (at least by the end in Yankee Stadium) reminded me of the 100 year celebration for Fenway last year. In a year when the team is struggling (especially the '12 Sox), the organization focused more on the celebration then trying to solve the issues of the season.
Think about, dispute the high bill of off season spending & #1 predicted Toronto team floundering like 1/2 their former Marlins teammates, a much less dominate Baltimore team, & a steady up & down Tampa team, Boston & NY still managed to be the talk of baseball. The Sox for their worst to first status. The Yankees for their injuries, A-Rod, Cano contract negotiations, & the 1 positive: honoring baseball's greatest closer.

I don't think it's blasphemous at all.
And that's why I only paid attention to the farewell tour a few times. (Fenway Park, for instance, and the final game at Yankee Stadium, of course)

So yeah... I'm glad I had a chance to meet him and to be there for a few of his games. Look forward to the day he makes the HOF!
Did anyone else see the game?
I heard he was a super nice guy.

*Cue ending theme*
