Ouch! That was an ugly loss for the Cards...

After 2 innings the outfield should have done this to the infield...youtu.be/i0GW0Vnr9Yc

OR an outstanding Sox win. They excel at taking pitches in the American League (as opposed to swinging at early pitches like in the National League.) Tonight's game with Wacha and how the no DH situation in St Louis should really determine the length of the series.

If the Cards get swept (which I don't expect) or lose in 5 games, that dropped pop up will define their team for this series.

I was surprised they kept talking about the "controversy" about that play at second base. Dude never had control of the ball, the ump made a terrible call, and it got overturned, end of story.

Well, now they are talking about Lester possibly using vaseline on the ball

It's not Vaseline, if it was, his pitches would be all over the place. Just like a good majority of pitchers & position players, its a type of pine tar. It helps to grip the ball during cold conditions (last night.)

Notice the MLB haven't looked into it further. Also, the Cards haven't complained either. Its more common then the average person thinks. Ideally, you don't want to be THAT blatantly obvious.

Plus, if you're a batter, you want a pitcher to have a grip on the ball. Imagine a pitcher throwing a 90mph+ ball in your direction with control issues!

yeah, no doubt the Umps coprrection was the right call. The "controversy", as i understand it, is that traditionally an umps initial call always stands. to make the change during game one of the World Series is a little surprising. Having said that it is tough to argue he had control of the ball in that case.

Well at least they did not accuse him of throwing a "jalapeno ball"

    :D

Wainwright waving off the infield and then watching the ball drop right in front of him was just...face palm worthy. Hope they look a little better tonight.

I'm blaming the laundry department. They obviously mixed up the dugouts!

It does show how close these teams mirror each other.

it's always amazing how little control a pitcher has when throwing to a base

Rick Ankiel used to launch come backers into the 15th row when he tried to throw to first

Obstruction? Weird. But I'm not gonna give it back. Talk about a series of errors...

I think the umps made the right call but it was a bad way for a game, let alone a W.S. game to end.

Yeah. They emphasized that there is a clear rule and intent doesn't matter. But you're right it is an unsatisfying way for any game to end. I'm curious to see how tonight shakes out.

Cards are really going to have to bring their A game tonight because I expect the Red Soxs to come out in a fury. Both teams really have something to prove tonight.

Picked off at first base?! What a bizzaro series...

I'm REALLY hoping the Sox win the Series, but regardless this is an amazing series. A lot of bizarre moments & plays.

If the cards don't win tomorrow night at home I think they're done. I don't see them winning two games in a row at Fenley Park.

I guess they only brought their "A minus" game.

Sorry I could not resist. I'm a national league guy so am hoping the Cards win. Plus I think it would be cool to say that my Giants won in 2010 and 2012 and the Cards in 2011 and 2013

These thing are emotionally draining. Even after a win, the following morning I'm nauseated. Its never over until its over, so I try not to get too excited until it is.

At least with a Super Bowl its an emotional roller coaster for a couple hours. MLB, NHL, & NBA have these long series where its a week worth of peaks & valleys.

At this point the Red Sox are earning their victories. They are getting out there, getting on base an making things happen. Young Cardinal pitching team looks afraid. Give those cats a couple years though and they could be formidable, or at least, more so than they have been this series.

I've been a Boston sport teams fan for too long not to know its not over until its over. I like their chances at home, but I'll keep the bravado in check.

I will say I've seen too many "StLoiusStronger", "BostonWeak", "it's fixed because of the bombings" & racial slurs about Koji & Ortiz tweeted by some Cards fans. It sucked when a couple Bruins fans did it during playoffs in 2012 & still does today.

yeah, there is no world in which that kind of garbage is cool. I want a victory because my team played better. i'm not looking to demonize the other team. Thats one thing I appreciate about Yadier Molina. He and Big Papi are clearly friendly with each other. I appreciate the respect he gives to his competetors. and this is the first time i've ever heard about any kind of racial crap from cards fans. I hate that. one of the things i like about being from StL is that we are the friendliest fans around. i hate to hear about that sort of bad sportsmanship.

I have this celebration policy: if you're a diehard fan for the opposing team & you didn't treat every game your team won in the series like its the series winner, I only bust a little chops. I respect you as a long time, diehard fan like myself & I know sooner or later the other show will drop.

If you're in my face after every win & you lose the series, I come at you with a full armory of comments.

If you're a pink hat or have only been a fan since the last & most frequent championship winner, then your criticizing my team if they lose is meaningless. When you bleed, sweat, & produce tears over the ups & downs of a team, THEN come laugh at me.

Having said that, I'm hoping the Sox close this in Game 6, or at least 2 final, great games.

I'm going to assume that the "st louis" fans that are talking all that garbage are actually just yankee fans pretending to be cards fans, cause we know they're a classy group of people :)

hopefully the cards find their bats for a couple more games

I understand the history behind this statement but in the last 12 years or so has any city won as many major sports titles as Boston has?

This will be the 12th championship series in 12 years. Boston teams are 7 for 11, but studying Boston sports history, there have been a lot of calamities this close to winning it all. The other shoe has to drop sooner or later right? (Hopefully not for decades!)
