Could have put in an "Other" category and let everyone fill in. Anyway, Waid it at the top right now. If you had asked me several years ago I would have said Bendis. BKV is right there too, but he seems to only put out one book at a time--which isn't bad, it's just Waid edged him out. Good list, though!
How dare you?!? You made me choose between BKV and Waid! Waid only edged out because I think BKV is amazing when he's working on his own projects. His work-for-hire stuff was never that great. (I consider Runaways his because it originated with him and The Oath was great too, but it was a mini and he probably had more latitude than usual). Waid thrives working on the iconic characters, but has produced a good deal of his own work which has been fantastic as well.

I wish I could have put more than 10 options up there. my plan to to keep going and add every writer I could think of. I wanted to throw Denny O'Neil and Clairmont and Grell and Geoff johns and on and on but I was stopped at 10. that's also why there is no "Other" option. when I reached the end I thought..."okay, that's the list".
I enjoy the work of all the people listed but I have to go with who is my favorite right now. Hickman is just blowing my mind with what he is doing. From The Manhattan Projects and East of West to his Avengers and Infinity books..simply spectacular Imho.
This was a tough poll. Deciding whether to go with "all-time" or "what have you done for me lately" was just the start of the debate in my head.
It does make me feel so good that many of the comics I'm currently reading have representatives here.
Matt Fraction won out for me because of long term consist enjoyment of his work in various projects.
This was, by no means, though, a runaway race. Mark Waid is writing a fantastic take on the Green Hornet right now that I enjoy each month, Jon Hickman is blowing me away with Manhattan Projects, Grant Morrison has crafted some of my favorite takes on classic/obscure characters, and Alan Moore wrote what I consider to be the best use of the comic form so far.

*Of those offered. Busiek's Astro City is sublime and would put him in second were he on the list.

The list is missing a dose of Busiek, though.
