Holy Grail of Comics

So, my girl recently asked me what my holy grail of comics would be. The single to-die-for issue. I drew a complete blank. There are so many great titles and runs and characters I love but I couldn't place a single mother of all issues. Maybe Amazing Fantasy 15 but I'm not a huge Spider-Man fan. Giant sized x-men #1 maybe. I don't know. So that's my question. What is your single most coveted issue?

Same here, I can't pinpoint any one issue. For the longest time it was Amazing Spider-Man 121 and 129, three years in a row I've gone to cons with money saved up for both, found them for less than I thought I would but very easily decided not to pull the trigger on the purchase.

I would like to own the mint-est possible copy of FF#1, and then a complete run of nice copies of the next 100 FF issues, just because of what that series meant, and how much I've enjoyed the FF.

If I had lottery-type money I'd snap up as many blue-chip comics like Action 1 and Detective 27 as I could get.

I've thought about those "blue chip" iconic issues but, what would you do with them? Display? Re-sell? Read and re-read? I have a hard time justifying that kind of cash outlay.

I do not have a specfic issue but a complete run of the Fawcett Captain Marvel (and all the various spin offs) would do it for me.

I would do whatever Nick Cage told me to do. If he said I needed a special room for them, I'd add a room.
  • Mine was Superman #30, but I recently found one in crappy condition on eBay at a very affordable price.

I guess mine would now be Tales of Suspense 39 since I've been an Iron Man fan for decades.
  • Mine would be Journey into Mystery 83 and 85. I'm a huge Superman fan so Action 1 would also be in there, but honestly I'd prefer to have the JIM issues. And they're a bit more attainable. So there's that too.
  • I think the holy grail that we KNOW exists is the original art to Amazing Fantasy #15, but for me, I think the original art to Captain America #1 by Simon and Kirby would be the greatest find in history...
  • The entire run of Hot Wheels from DC.
