Apple Bans Comics...

Apple Bans 59 Comics From Comixology App in 2013 Due to Mature Content

I remember this first coming up when "Sex" by Joe Casey came out, and later when Saga #12 (though that turned out to be Comixology in a misguided attempt to predict Apple's reaction), but I had no idea it affected so many titles, including "Sex Criminals" which I have been enjoying immensely so far. As the article points out, not being available on the iOS version of the app is damaging to the book's sales. And what bothers me the most is that Apple will sell it through the iBookstore!!! Somehow its not objectionable when Apple chooses to sell a book itself. As someone who's floppy intake has dropped to almost nothing this is distressing. I just discovered 3 or 4 titles I had been looking for were available on the Comixology site but not through the app.

I want to see the UNINTENTIONAL penis videos, and the comedy or errors involved in recording said penis by accident, then somehow posting it for the world to see in a 6 second clip.

The penis videos were random? What were the other random videos? Did it go music video, news clip, penis video, sports highlight?

    Re: Vine

What I said about Apple still allowing Vine was a joke.

The porn on there is real, though. I downloaded the app, filmed my boy being goofy, and posted it..it automatically went under #firstpost. I scrolled through about five videos within the same group and came across the first penis vid. A few more clips later was a topless woman..while better than a penis vid, I was surprised how easily a kid could find this under #firstpost. I did a google search and there are a lot of articles addressing Vine's "porn problem." As an adult I can handle the random naughty clip but since I downloaded it for my kids(their friends all have it) I chose to delete it.

Eh. It's Apple's choice to decide what they want to sell and not and you have the choice to spend your money to buy those items elsewhere so Apple doesn't see that money. Their loss.

Two problems. First, Apple is denying Comixology from selling these titles, then selling them itself through iBookstore. Second, it hurts the sales of those books to be denied because of arcane guidelines that vendors (as someone who works for a vendor to Apple, I know) have to guess at. Having your point of purchase and your reading platform as one and the same is key because every extra step loses customers. No one would download the NY Times app, only to have to go to nytimes.com every morning to buy the paper and then go back to their iDevice to read it. Then there are titles that can't even be advertised on the app, so how would you even know to try it?

It would be entirely different if Apple stated what it's guidelines were and applied them to itself as well. At least then publishers could market the digital versions of objectional books differently.

    Wise choice.
