Digital Comics - Why/Where/How

Hey guys,

So, due to the fact that I live in a place where printed comics are really hard to come buy, most of my reading is done via internet.
I've read a lot of digital comics so far but my questions to you are:

What digital comics would you recommend?
What platforms/apps would you recommend?

I'm open to suggestions for comics that are digitally exclusive, too.

  • Comixology is the best, with the largest library and most participating publishers. Dark Horse has their own platform that's not too awful but is occasionally buggy. Online, publishers like Thrillbent offer quality free comics.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've checked out a few actually. The last one that I've discovered was Cloud 9 Comix. I like their multicultural approach to comics, as I've read a whole bunch of Italian Fumeti comics. I was wondering if there were other US-based or generally English-written comics. I've stuck with indie publishers for the most part.

    Any other suggestions?

This is all true. I like Thrillbent a lot, esp The Damnation of Charlie Wormwood. I might also add, if you like the stuff Mike Norton and Tim Seeley are doing lately. The 4 Star Studios guy are doing some digital.

    I don't get it.

Is the premise that the reason to read comics is to put them in plastic bags? Is that the best part?

That seems to be part of the "collector mentality". Or a way to make fun of it.

If you want to download free and legal copies of Golden Age comics, then I definitely recommend this website
    http://comicbookplus.com/

The comics are free to download as they are outside copyright.

A GREAT way to read digital comics is the Marvel Unlimited set up, simply because for a monthly fee, you get access to a LOT of Marvel’s back issues. You can also download a few onto your phone/tablet/etc… to take with you when you don’t have internet access. And at 10 a month or $70 a year, it’s the best comics investment I make every year.

    Absolutely! It's worth every penny.

I love the service. Only the reader user interface is among the worst. It doesn't support landscape mode, always showing 2 pages instead of fit to width, 2-page spreads sometimes register as a single page so it minimizes it next to a regular page. It annoys me that they waste money on audio enhancements instead of designing an intuitive user interface. Don't get me started on the mobile app. It's completely useless.
