The Wolverine movie and 3D Blu-rays

I know I said I wouldn't do the Blu-ray release reminder (@David_D), but did anyone else pick it up? I think its shitty I have to buy the 4 disc set (which includes the 3D version) to get the unleashed (extended) cut. I have the capability with my Blu-ray player & TV, I'm just not interested. In the end, its an extra disc I spent a couple bucks to never use, but I was more interesting in knowing how many people actually buy the 3D versions? I refuse to see a movie in the theatres in 3D & I won't buy the 3D Blu-rays if I can avoid it. How about the rest of you?

Are the sales of 3D discs, players, TVS, & glasses low that this combo might become the norm?

I only buy because of the added digital copy and the bonus features that aren't in the regular release. Amazon's price was not too bad, so I'm okay with it. I realize that purchasing these versions just exacerbate the prevalance of 3D-BRs. I don't own a 3D TV or BR player so I suppose it's a bit of a waste, but usually if you get the films just as they are released, the price is low enough to not feel so wasteful about it. With the digital copy, I can then sell the physical disc later if I choose.

Haven't seen a movie yet that makes getting a 3D set a necessity.

I should also mention that we hardly ever go out to the movies. By the time I buy the tickets for four, I've already spent enough to by a BR/DVD two times over. Makes more sense to just buy the BR/DVD and I can watch multiple times. But I understand that's not for everyone.

I had the extended cut edition on my Amazon wishlist until I realized that it's only on a BluRay disc. I don't have a BluRay player, but I assumed that somewhere in that huge edition (which is also listed under "DVD") there would be an actual DVD disc with the extended cut on it. But there's not. The DVD in that package only comes with the regular version on it. So I'm out of luck. May as well pay $20 less and just get the regular DVD version. Those extra $20 probably aren't worth the extra 17 minutes of footage anyway.

(Yes, I know, probably a lot of people think it's crazy for people in 2013 not to have a BluRay player. But I don't have one, and I don't really miss it.)

As for 3D: I thought it fit in okay with Avatar. I thought it made Avengers a very fun movie-going experience. I thought it was, eh, okay in Prometheus. But that's it. You don't need it for Wolverine. There are very, very few cases in which 3D isn't more hype than it's worth.

Walmart has the extended edition for $25, just DVD for $20. Watched extended cut of the movie tonight, great stuff. Longer fight in the 3rd Act with 'guys in pajamas' & altered lines in the movie itself.

I didn't get to see this movie in the theater, but this has to be my favorite comic book movie of 2013.

It is BS, but it seems like most places are pricing the 3D Unleashed Edition almost equal to the regular blu ray.

REALLy sucks for DVD users though.

Finally saw it. Loooved it. Six Wolverine claws way UP (bone or adamantium)! Anyone catch the obligatory Marvel epilogue at the end? Looks like a fun set up for the next film, but then I remembered seeing the X-Men:DoFP trailer and I do believe that will be the connection. I read Claremont & Miller's Wolverine mini not too long ago and I felt a connection to a lot of what was in there, but also recognized the original story this was. I felt the ending and the baddie was telegraphed, but it was fun regardless. It was a fun movie ad much better than the first (and I actually liked that first one). I saw the theatrical movie, but will probably watch the extended with the missus. I was surprised that this was really the only place this movie was being talked about. What did the rest of you think? Should we SPOILERIZE this thread or what?

I've long since given up buying blu rays. I figure it'll be on netflix or played to death on FX soon enough.

I did see it in the theater and I liked it a lot. It made up for the last movie...which was a turd.

I'll only buy certain Blu-rays, most movies I'll Netflix. I'm interested in the extras, which Netflix doesn't allow access, so buy certain movies makes sense. For example, there's a slight alternate ending to the Wolverine where he gets a gift that's brown & tan (verse blue & yellow.)

  • I wait for big price drops on blu-rays now. I can get Iron Man 3 at my video store (they still have those!) for $10 for a blu-ray that was a rental. I am not crazy paying extra to see an extended scene that should have been extended like the ninja fight in The Wolverine. I'll wait for the drop and maybe Redbox to see again.

I'm glad this finally got a thread, I saw it in the theater and kept waiting for someone to start talking about it (I don't know why I didn't start a thread, just figured it was always right around the corner)

What a great movie, especially considering how much of a letdown the first one was. Hopefully I find the blu ray in my stocking next week and can check out the extended version.

I'm a lover of Netflix, but if its a movie I really like, I'll buy it. Movies (on streaming anyway) come and go all the time as their rights expire and don't get repurchased. Also, if its a movie I like I enjoy watching it in all of its Blu Ray glory. Also easier to bring to friends houses if you happen to ahve a copy.
