Whether your a fan or an artist yourself, everyone has a favourite peice of commissioned art. The one you'll take to your grave. The one you'll never sell.
I invite you to post them here and maybe even tell us a little about it.
-who did it?
-where'd you get it?
-why is it so important to you?
...that kind of thing.
If you're also an artist, feel free to post both your favourite piece ever purchased as well as you're favourite piece you've ever been paid to do.

Its from the great Alex Robinson!(Box Office Poison, Tricked)
An ink sketch of his interpretation of the gang from Fallen Angel as an homage to Nighthawks.
What could be cooler
Her's my favourite piece that I was ever commissioned to do.

I was asked simply to paint my favourite Beatle song.
I chose my favourite from the White Album and made it into a sideshow poster.
I do love my current profile picture (http://thecomicforums.com/profile/49/JohnathanConstantine) which is John Constantine and Swamp Thing by Ben Templesmith. I thought the idea of getting it was kind of perverse (oh no, universes colliding) but it has grown on me more and more. I do have a few others which I will post in time.
Recently done commission of Reed Richards thumb rasslin' Plastic Man with attendees. If you squint you'll find a caped crusader having a brew in the background. The most fun commission I've gotten to do in a while.
I also dig my Don Rosa Scrooge McDuck:
And this retro space girl from Les McClaine:
This 10th Doctor by Bill Blankenship:
And of the many cool pieces I've picked up from Andrew Charipar over the years, I think this White Rabbit is my favorite he's done for me:
Here is the rest of my collection should you be interested. comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=23719
This cliff Chiang Saturn Girl is probably my favorite that I've ever paid for. I tend more towards OA these days than commissions. Though I still get them every once in a while - I tend not to get big artists any more. OA is generally a better value.
Just the character herself is awesome. But that he also added DC go-go checks made me love this.
From SuperShow, Walt Simonson's Thor:
Chris Sprouse's Supreme. I was impressed with how methodical Sprouse inked this. He was very careful and it showed far more patience than I would ever have.
Scott Kolins drawing Jay Garrick:
Jose Villarrubia draws Alan Moore
And my favorite superhero artist drawing my favorite superhero - George Perez drawing Barry Allen (and yes, if he'd done Wally West, he told me that it would have been slightly different, Wally's face would be slightly rounder than Barry's as done by Perez)
And this is the earliest piece of original artwork I ever got. In the early 90s, we had a truly amazing comic shop here in Bangor, Maine and the owner was slowly building a notable, annual convention here in the area (getting artists such as Kelley Jones after having just come off his work on Sandman, Walt and Louise Simonson were regular guests, John Paul Leon, Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, and a number of Milestone creators were guests, and Humberto Ramos made his American convention debut up here before he was "Humberto Ramos."). Anyway. The final show featured Martin Nodell, creator of the original Green Lantern, and I bought the following painting from him.
Chris Samnee Captain America
I just love this!
Dave Wachter Captain America
He did such a wonderful job with him.
Alex Maleev Daredevil
Cloak and Dagger by Martheus Wade
Beta Ray Bill by David Rivera
Frog Thor by Mark Stegbauer
Asgardian Kegger by JK Woodward
My favorite so far is Skottie Youngs (I dont have the GLC guys name on me)
He did these for the birth of my son, Vincent, and sent them from Singapore! The robot is saying "Live long and perspire" :)
This one is an original page from Malinky Robot, but one of my favorite pieces from a comic.
(a more recent photo)
here is another one of my favorite commissions, Doom by Maleev!
