I was asked simply to paint my favourite Beatle song.
I chose my favourite from the White Album and made it into a sideshow poster.

I haven't bought any original art but I get something commissioned at every con I go do, mainly because there are so few cons here.

I do love my current profile picture (http://thecomicforums.com/profile/49/JohnathanConstantine) which is John Constantine and Swamp Thing by Ben Templesmith. I thought the idea of getting it was kind of perverse (oh no, universes colliding) but it has grown on me more and more. I do have a few others which I will post in time.

Recently done commission of Reed Richards thumb rasslin' Plastic Man with attendees. If you squint you'll find a caped crusader having a brew in the background. The most fun commission I've gotten to do in a while.

Forgot to say before I posted. This one we commissioned over the phone when he first started taking commissions. I've loved Patrick's ability to mimic different styles for a while and was very happy with how this came out.

Here's my favorite commission. My wife secretly got me this Khoi Pham commission of our daughter as a super hero with our dog and her owl lovey as a birthday present.


This cliff Chiang Saturn Girl is probably my favorite that I've ever paid for. I tend more towards OA these days than commissions. Though I still get them every once in a while - I tend not to get big artists any more. OA is generally a better value.

I haven't really gotten into commissioning artwork yet - and the few I've gotten have not been overly "imaginative." But through the years, I have gotten some sketches at conventions. Here are a couple of favorites.

From SuperShow, Walt Simonson's Thor:



Chris Sprouse's Supreme. I was impressed with how methodical Sprouse inked this. He was very careful and it showed far more patience than I would ever have.

And this is the earliest piece of original artwork I ever got. In the early 90s, we had a truly amazing comic shop here in Bangor, Maine and the owner was slowly building a notable, annual convention here in the area (getting artists such as Kelley Jones after having just come off his work on Sandman, Walt and Louise Simonson were regular guests, John Paul Leon, Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, and a number of Milestone creators were guests, and Humberto Ramos made his American convention debut up here before he was "Humberto Ramos."). Anyway. The final show featured Martin Nodell, creator of the original Green Lantern, and I bought the following painting from him.

I commissioned Martheus wade for this Nightwing a couple of years ago at a CGS SuperShow (pre-ordered it and picked it up at the show). The original is inked hanging in my mancave, but this is a copy that his wife, Janet, colored, which looks awesome. (IMHO) To date, this is my favorite art piece I own.

@7h0m45 Do you know if he used process white for the spatter and the lines of the right-hand building or some sort of masking fluid/resist? (basically, is it white paint over the red or is is paper showing though) That is a great piece!

Here are a couple I happen to have online already from Sonny Liew (Malinky Robot):


He did these for the birth of my son, Vincent, and sent them from Singapore! The robot is saying "Live long and perspire" :)


This one is an original page from Malinky Robot, but one of my favorite pieces from a comic.
