Doctor Who comic license moves to Titan Comics

Comments

  • Its actually a pretty good match, but I've already seen complaints that a lot of LCS's don't carry titan books unless is by special request.

I just can't get into Doctor Who comics. I need the whole package. I need to hear the british accents, I like the show for it's quirky acting and setting. Maybe I just haven't found the right comic version (?)
  • I loved IDW's stories, but not so much the artists most of the time. I look forward to seeing what Titan has to offer this year! I need to finish collecting the trades from IDW and Panini sometime soon too. I always forget about the Panini releases.

I always ask. Will it be rebooted or continue on. I guess it doesn't matter for DW because writers seem to make anything be able to fit in this universe

I did like the collected trades of Doctor Who from IDW. Very similar to Dark Horse Omnibi format.
  • Question: Can then Titan print all the IDW stuff? Are those part of the liscene as well?

Its different for every deal, but a lot of times the licensor retains ownership of the material and can have it published by whomever they want... That's why Dark Horse reprints the Marvel Conan and Star Wars series, while IDW has republished Marvel's Transformers and GI Joe books (originally, at least in the case of Transformers, without any material that Marvel explicitly owned, like issue #4 with Spider-Man).

Titan is one of the indie companies I do my best to support with my dollars.

So expect them to go under within the next year or so. :)

I haven't read all of IDW's stuff, but it seemed like they were doing a decent job. I think all I've read from Titan has been the reprints of James Bond comic strips. I wasn't aware they handled original projects.

I'd love to see a publisher tackle the older Doctors as well, but I suspect that sales and maybe even licensing issues might prevent that.

Titan branched out to original material (in the US anyway) in 2012 so they are still a relatively new player on the scene. But they have a pretty robust publishing apparatus already, with their reprint and UK businesses, so I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about them more an more like an IDW or Dynamite-esque capacity.

They started in 1981 and I don't think you should have any worries. And, through their "Hard Case Crime" arm, they just published a new Steven King book, which probably made them a LOT of money.

I love me some Hard Case Crime.

Didn't they also publish the 2000 AD trades?
