Rumor: Warner Bros blinks in game of "Premiere Date Chicken" w/ Marvel

Appears the Marvel movie juggernaut may have claimed another victim

Following the statement from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige that Marvel would not be backing away from the planned May 6, 2016 release of an as-of-yet unnamed Marvel film, rumors are now circulating that Warner Bros. will be moving up the release date of Batman vs. Superman.

According to Brazilian website Judão (via Hey U Guys), sources say that Warner Bros. Brazil will be releasing Batman vs. Superman on April 28, 2016, with the US released date being similarly moved to April 29, 2016. Sources say that Warner Bros. Brazil is still waiting for the final confirmation of this move. That would place Batman vs. Superman one week ahead of whatever it is Marvel has planned for May 6, 2016.

Marvel was the first to schedule a release on May 6, 2016, though they did not say what film they plan on releasing. Batman vs. Superman was originally slated to come out in 2015, but was pushed back to the contentious early May date.

If the rumor is true, then it means the studios will avoid a one-on-one opening weekend showdown at the box office, but a Batman vs. Superman film opening just a week ahead still stands a chance to overshadow a smaller Marvel film, especially if reviews come back positive.

The rumor is still unconfirmed at this time, so Batman vs. Superman is currently still scheduled to be released May 6, 2016.

Well, that would make sense. I mean, when Captain America throws his mighty shield, all those who chose to oppose his shield must yield.

Marvel rules the movies (Avengers), DC rules TV (Arrow). I'd get out of Caps way as well, particularly if this latest movie is as good as I'm hoping!

I'd be hugely surprise if any Marvel movie not titled "Avengers" will take the box office if their opening weekend was against the Man of Steel sequel. Regardless, if both movies are released that weekend, then Marvel wins. There will be people who see the Marvel movie instead of DC figuring it'll be less crowded.

Sure DC might get 80-85% of the box office, but maybe A2: AoU does 85-90%. Now Marvel has the records & DC just misses out. Let's honest, the studio wants the $, records, & dominance. An established Marvel movie could hinder DC from getting some of that opening weekend.

Marvel is wise to stay the course.
