Peter David's X-Factor...both of them. Spoilers.

So, I came a little late to the Maddrox party but I got there eventually. Now I've read the first 4 issues of this new iteration. I guess I'm at a bit of a disadvantage right from the start because I don't like Gambit and I'm pretty indifferent towards the rest of the cast as well. Even so, I wanted to give it a go based on the awesomeness of the previous series. So, here is my thing...was anybody else annoyed that the King of Thives got caught stealing TWICE in the first issue. And the second time by Polaris of all people?! R

Didn't notice... I was too busy being annoyed that Gambit was even on the team.

I agree with you about being indifferent toward the new line up; if it wasn't for bitchy Polaris and snooty Quicksilver, this title would be pretty boring. Cypher arriving next issue isn't exciting me, and the artwork isn't really helping either.

I'll stick with it for a few more issues because I'm a fan of PAD and the previous Maddrox incarnation of X-Factor, but this title is on the edge of being dropped.

I LOOOVED the Madrox version of X-Factor. This version just didn't hit with me. I dropped it after three issues.

I liked the first 3 issues alright, but it didn't wow me and I really dislike Gambit, so I decided to stop picking it up monthly. I might go back in collected form, but I don't know yet.

I'm a pretty recent convert to the previous series, though, and I've been devouring that. I've read the first 11 trade paperbacks since Christmas. Love it... can't remember the last time I connected with a series so much. Starman, maybe? I know they're re-collecting the series in those "Complete Collection" editions (including the original Madrox mini-series, which I still haven't read), but those aren't going to come out fast enough to satisfy my need (yes, need) to keep going. I might upgrade eventually - at least the first volume so I can get the Madrox series in collected form - but I'm happy enough to find the original collections for now.

Peter David did such an awesome job with the previous version of X-Factor. He MADE me love every character (with the exception of Darwin). A hodgepodge collection of heroes and C-list characters that shouldn't have worked, yet really, really did.

So far that chemistry is NOT happening with the "All New" X-Factor. And there is too much competition out there for my money to give it much more of a chance.

I'm quite liking All New X-Factor, though I can see why it might be hard to love compared to the private detective incarnation. When Gambit is your most sympathetic character it's probably going to be a prickly book. I do quite like modern Gambit though, the one who's not pining for Rogue and kept away from cod-Claremontian dialogue.

To be fair, the three little kittens are helping to make Gambit much more likeable.

I just picked up the Complete edition vol 1 and then gave my Maddrox hardcover to a buddy to jump start his addiction. That original mini series was fantastic. on a side note the Fred Van Lente Taskmaster mini is similarly excellent.

    Damn you Peter David!
I just read issue #5 of All New X-Factor. I was all prepared to hate it and cancel the title... but I thought it was pretty decent and I can see the series really picking up over the next couple of issues. Now I'm sucked in and will have to see how it plays out. So much for saving cash.
