I'm off to my first con, C2E2 this year and already have my 3-day pass sitting in my apartment. is anyone from the community going, and how much money would you recommend bringing with me? I'm already shooting for around $100 to $200
Never been to C2E2. But what I'd recommend is bringing whatever you NEED with you the first day (food, drink, maybe the occasional single issue, etc.). Leave the rest at the hotel/apartment/home.
If you bring it all with you to your first con, you run the risk of blowing it all on the first day. You're going to see TONS of stuff you want. I'd wait and use your first day to get a feel for the con itself. Look around, maybe make a list of what you can't live without, etc. THEN day 2 or 3, bring the money and start buying.
I'm not able to go this year, which really has me down because we missed last year also.
Good advice above. You don't want to go through all of it in the first day and will more than likely find something on the second or third day that you may have overlooked.
Get a plan together for food, you don't buy food at the con unless you have to.
I will be there with my normal crew and a few people from work. $100-$200 is a decent number, but it all depends on what you are into. I usually bring about $500, some years I spend most of it, other years I've spent almost none of it. It all depends on what you are getting.
If you want sketches from anyone on a big 2 book you'll blow through $200 in no time. If you do a jam piece of small headshots those are normally only $10-$20 or free. If you can't afford a sketch from a guy your really want, ask what the artist would do for X dollars, they are usually very nice and willing to work with you.
Shopping wise if you want something rare buy it when you see it, otherwise wait, normally by Sunday the prices have dropped. Also if you see a lot of stuff you want with one vendor, haggle away. Most of them will cut you a break on a bunch of stuff.
As others have said stay away from food/drinks at the con. A bottle of pop is usually like $5, compared to $1 at the grocery store. Spend your money on tangible comics and not fuel!
comfortable shoes. bottled water sketch money (sketch from Norm Rapmund $40, Sketch from Chris Samnee $200 so...depends what you want) dinner in Chinatown (just up the street, if you're adventurous try shabu shabu hot pot at Joy Yee Plus or the milk tea at Saint Alp's Teahouse)
good stuff, I'm mostly going to go this time as a "get a feel for cons" sort of thing. I plan on bringing as much food as possible with me. sketches might be something I'll get, but mostly I'm going to get some TPBs on the cheap (hopefully). if anything I just want to go to say I went.
