Who is watching Jim Henson's Creature Shop?

I DVR'd the first two episodes and watched them last night. Obviously this show is very similar to Face Off, but being a fan of Jim Henson, this show is automatically cool. It's neat to see how they make the creatures and how much work goes into one. Brian Henson was saying usually one creature can take weeks to months to make (probably why they always look so neat on the screen). Anyone else checked this out yet?

The challenge this week was great. Fans of Dark Crystal should check it out. How will they continue to top this challenge week to week will be fun to watch. How it all comes together is more than I realized. It really is a group effort.

I don't have cable and I choose to purchase my shows from iTunes. In doing this I'm really selective about which shows I buy. I've loved Face/Off since season 1 and when I heard about JHCS I snagged it up as soon as it was available. I agree that it's a lot like F/O and that first episode kinda rubbed me the wrong way, but as a show it's nothing new. I'm just here to see the creatures and catch a glimpse of the inner workings at the Henson studio.

One thing about Face Off I notice is they almost always are monsters, where I think of Jim Henson characters as more creatures. I guess it's not that different, but all the creations in Henson movies always seem a little more whimsical and fun (even if they are the bad guys).

Another thing I thought was interesting was how the people had to think about how to design the costume pieces to keep the puppeteer cool and able to move. I never really thought about how hot those things must be, especially under all the lights and on set for who knows how many hours a day.

I agree. Everytime F/O contestants are given a challenge it's something like: My creature/monster comes from the dark future where he had an accident which began his mutation...

    My response: (:|

IMO there's one or two people each season that are versatile enough to do make-ups that aren't all gory monsters. Everyone else are one-trick ponies. Talented! But one-trick ponies nonetheless.
  • I watched the first episode, and the second is on my DVR to hopefully watch this weekend. Fairly reminiscent of designing and building models in college - I majored in Industrial Design. Two days is tough, but doable if you don't need to get too detailed.

I am DVRing it. Gave up on F/O 2 seasons ago. Mostly because it seemed they kept one woman around, who showed very little talent. But was always causing drama. Which is a trap lots of reality shows fall into.
