Sentry's role and disappearance in Uncanny Avengers.

I thought I would make a thread about Sentry's role in the comic and his sudden disappearance thanks to the worm and other things related to the poem he quotes.

So I thought during Sentry's first encounter with Thor their were 3 interesting images I picked up and they seem quite interesting the almost indicate an ulterior motive for the Sentry.

I wondered perhaps what this could be. It mentions it's masters which are Uriel and Eimin and the premonition which has now come true since Earth has been destroyed (along with the humans) the mutants have been saved and everyone is on Planet X. So this seems to be the premonition complete but what would Sentry need Thor's aid for now?
Now the next part of my question will be quite long (also apologies if it sounds a bit silly) so as you know if you have been reading the comic the Sentry quotes from the poem known as Rime of the Ancient Mariner and as I started looking through the poem I noticed a lot of similarities between Sentry's story in the comic and what happens in the poem, for example on line 42 and 43 of part 5 in the poem it says.

"It had been strange, even in a dream, To have seen those dead men rise."

And ten lines down in the poem it says
"But he said nought to me" which although it doesn't share the same meaning exactly but it is almost a lose wording of how Thor says "I say thee nay!" when he attempts to punch the Sentry. I only take it as being a loose wording as in the poem it features so close together and it does in the comic as well.

And again a couple of lines down in the poem it says "Be calm, thou Wedding-Guest" which again Sentry makes a loose wording by saying "Calm your rage" and again credence is kind of added to the theory by how close it is to each line in the poems.

And coming onto the part of the worm there is again a quote which sounds similar.
"Then like a pawning horse let go, She made a sudden bound It flung blood into my head And I fell down in a swound."
Swound meaning faint/fainted in Old English. And lastly there is a slight indicator if the writers are following the poem that Sentry returns as there is this quote here.
"How long in that same fit I lay, I have not to declare; But ere my living my life returned."
So from that we can gather that the Mariner or possibly Sentry will return as ere means before. Again this is if they are following the poem as it clearly looks like they are.
Apologies for the long post.

I always saw Sentry as a pale ripoff of Marvelman/Miracleman.

Now that Marvel owns Marvelman, I doubt Sentry will show up as anything more than a D-Man-level joke.

IMO, that's still more than the character deserves.

Hey, now, I love D-Man. Nobody loves Sentry.

It took the passage of time for D-Man to evolve from The Stupidest Character Ever to a loveable joke.

In time, the same *may* happen to Sentry.

Oh, I don't know. I rather enjoyed the Sentry during his time with the Avengers and the Dark Avengers. I had the benefit of not being familiar with him, having never seen his previous series, so his presence on the team led to some interesting situations and tensions.

Sentry was an interesting as idea and an OK mini-series, but integrating him into the main modern MU was a poor choice.

I thought Sentry could be interesting but nobody seemed to know what to do with him. Every big event or even just important story arc we would get another weak excuse for him to fly off and not take part with whatever was happening.

I could have seen Sentry becoming this amazing villain that everyone had to join together to beat, good and bad guys alike.

As for the original thread point about him in Uncanny Avengers, I think we might see him again before this story is over. Possibly working with Thor to fix whatever ends up happening with the second chance at saving Earth, maybe this other voice he hears is the Void again but because Sentry has come back evil, the Void is now good?

Sentry mentions the void being removed and in it's place is Death, he could be referring to the death seed. One thing I have looked at is if you look on the Marvel wiki about death seeds it mentions when Apocalypse dies someone implanted with the Death Seed ascends and takes his place (like what happened with Archangel). And when he last fights Thor he rips his face of and says "I am Apocalypse" and "I will not allow humanity to suffer these mutant threats" which seems like he is saying he is safeguarding humans from the mutants. So he is now Apocalypse which means he is sure to come into conflict with Eimin. They have to use him now as they have made him into Apocalypse.

@A_Drunken_Scotsman. Like your research into the Rime of the Ancient Mariner. It would be nice to see Sentry play a bigger role than "undead thug".

Yep I mean in the comic there is a lot of indication like how he says Sentry has other plans and he isn't trying to kill Thor because he needs him later. It could perhaps be against Eimin or Kang. I'm just wondering how he is going to escape from the worm. If you remember when Daken first starts talking he seems to command the worm in a way and makes it drop Wolverine out of its mouth until he decides not to wait and claws himself out. He even calls himself the king of worms so he might get him out.

Agreed. The original 2000 Paul Jenkins/Jae Lee mini series was fantastic. The idea of the Sentry as the greatest hero that the world was forced to forget was absolutely brilliant. It should have been left at that.

And don't ever, EVER bad-mouth D-Man! I have always loved D-Man. Hands down Cap's best side-kick. Screw Falcon, Rick Jones and Bucky.
