3 DC Weekly Series - Batman Eternal, Future's End, & Earth 2: World's End

I am not sure if a thread was already created to discuss these titles, but with the last of the 3 weekly titles just announced, I thought this could be a good place to talk about them.

Unfortunately for my wallet, I am excited and interested in all 3 titles.

I have already read the first 2 issues of Batman Eternal and loved them. the art was great and the story being told has a good amount of mystery and action put in there. I really enjoy reading so many of Batman's supporting cast along with the main character.

I am looking forward to Future's End with Batman Beyond being brought into our world. I long future jump style stories. They are great for deciphering over the course of the story, "how did we get to this point?" I'm anxious to see what has happened with various characters in this future world.

I love the Earth 2 series. I liked it a lot when James Robinson was on it, but Tom Taylor has really taken it up a notch for me. I never know what to expect. Nothing appears off limits, which keeps my attention. I like the new Kryptonian, Aquawoman, the new Batman, Red Tornado, etc. I am eager to see where this new title takes us. Could this be a multiverse style title as well as a focus on Earth 2? I'd love to see.

So, what are your thoughts? Are you trying any of them? Are you like me, and will be reading them all? Has anyone else been reading Batman Eternal, and what are your thoughts?

Have at it!!

At the moment, I'm not financially healthy enough to try any of them. I'm not especially interested in the first two anyway, as I'm sure it'll only aggravate the New52 mess even further, but I agree with your opinion on Earth 2 and, if I could, I'd give Earth 2: World's End a try.

The first two issues of Batman Eternal have been good. I don't know how many issues will be Fabouk issues, so hopefully the art and storytelling stays that strong as the story gets further in. But I am on board to give it at least the first month or so of issues, and then we'll see. The story reminds me of something I might see in the current series of Batman video games. And that is not necessarily a bad thing. But I am hoping that a story this big will have room for some nuance/character moments to explore and is not just one big crisis story.
  • I added both Batman Eternal and Future's End to my pull list about a month ago. I'll probably add Earth 2: World's end soon. Thankfully a couple titles have ended recently or will soon, but I'll have to remove at least a couple more soon.

Any chance we'll be getting new 3D covers?!

  • Bleeding Cool has mentioned 3D covers, I think in September.
  • Yes. The 3D covers are for September, which I believe is when the titles jump ahead 5 years. I'm not sure if there will be any 3D covers for these weekly series.

I was actually making a joke. I thought those covers were a disastrous idea. I wonder if this will be a new event thing.

  • You may have been joking, but DC saw it as a success, so they have come back. LOL

Never underestimate a special cover to bring out the speculators.

I actually liked the 3D covers overall. They were done well (the distribution wasn't done well, but the actual execution of the 3D effect was done well). Not all of the stories were done well, but I figured that would be the case.
  • I know why DC is doing this, but it's frustrating me that in the solicits for next month, DC is showing a ton of Future's End tie-in titles to pre-order and they won't be released until September. I understand that they want to avoid the debacle of the 3D covers from last time, but you're seriously going to have me pre-order in May for books that are coming out in September....along with all of the other titles??!!

I don't want to get all negative on DC and I hope that I don't seriously have to pre-order these next month along with my regular pre-orders, but that is pretty ridiculous if it's true. I get that later on I won't have to pre-order much of anything, but this is asking a lot from people in one month.

    Short rant over.

Is the pre-order just for the 3D covers, allowing the non-3D cover versions of the same comics to be preordered at the same time as the other September books? Hopefully they will make that an option.
  • I'm not really sure. The solicitations I saw had listed both the $2.99 price and the $3.99 price, so it seems like it would be for both versions. I liked the 3D covers last time, but I just hate buying two months worth of DC books in one month. It will even out later, but still stinks for now. I could see this causing some people to drop titles they were luke warm on. I know that I'll be second guessing some titles if I have to pre-order them all, and I still get quite a few DC titles that I enjoy.
  • I just read Batman Eternal #3 last night and this title just keeps on delivering a fantastic story. This is the issue that brings Stephanie Brown into the story, and it is done so well. It's very true to what we know of the character before. There is some mystery shadow person pulling the strings in the background. The art is still fantastic. We're only 3 issues in and I already want an Absolute version of this. It is an extremely solid and enjoyable Batman story. I cannot recommend checking out the first 3 issues enough.
