Free Comic Book Day Festivities?

So, hey gang. Any big FCBD plans? The wife and I are planning a little jaunt over to Mark Waid's shop Alter Ego in Muncie, IN. https://www.facebook.com/AlterEgoComics. Waid and Samnee will be there along with Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV. Last year (or two years ago? the memory is going...) I'm pretty sure I got a sketch from Mike Norton at http://challengerscomics.com/ so we opted for something a little different this year. I'm hoping i can get a Samnee sketch cuz...you know, Samnee!

you guys got any ideas?

Hitting up our LCS Heroes Haven in Michigan City, then meeting some friends at Lightspeed Hobbies in Portage followed by some philly cheesesteaks for lunch. capping it with seeing Amazing Spider-Man 2 with the boy.

If we have a car by then ~X(

Oh yeah! I forgot about ASM2. I want to say I’m cautiously optimistic going into that one but that is not quite right. It is more like resignedly pessimistic.

I am going to the annual Powerslam Productions Slamfest in Liberty MS. Each year they have a free outdoor show. Then afterwards I am hitting the comic shop.

Last year at the free show I got to see Big Daddy V. Who turned out to be a super nice guy.

I just saw Samnee at C2E2 and he said he's not doing sketches at conventions anymore, but FCBD may be different. I could've gotten one years ago for like $20 and I didn't. What I moron I am!

Gonna hit up JHU Comics in Manhattan for their First Anniversary Sale. Buy Two of any graphic novels or backissues, get the third free. Niceeeeee.

I'll also probably hit up Montasy Comics Chapter Two as they tend to have a decent amount of FCBD titles without much line. Then off I go to a 4:15 2-D showing of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 at the AMC/Loews Kips Bay!

Huh. That's interesting. I wonder why, did he say? I hope it wasn't a bad experience that turned him off or something.

No, nothing like that, he just said he draws all the time for his day job, so he wanted the con to talk to friends, sign books, meet the fans, etc. He said he did do commissions, but it sounded more like when he had time. I was a little bummed, but I can't blame any artist who wants a day or two where they aren't hunched over a drawing table.
  • I'm going to be going to York Comics in the Cleveland, Ohio area. I got there every year and you can get 1 of every comic that comes out. This year they are making people donate to Wounded Warriors if you want all of the books, but the donation is very minimal and it's for a good cause. I may also swing by Carol & John's Comic, which is probably the best comic shop in the area, but they are a bit more of a drive for me to get to. They usually have a midnight celebration for FCBD so I might try to attend that.

I am excited for some of the titles. I am very pumped for the Future's End comic and for the Mouseguard (just like I am for that title every year). I am interested in the Transformers vs. G.I. Joe title, but I was more excited for it before I saw the art and read some of the preview pages. I'm not a big fan of Scioli's art on it and in the preview pages they got some fundamental things about the characters totally wrong (ex. - they have Snake-Eyes talking). I am a huge fan of Skyward, so I am very excited about that issue coming out on FCBD, and the other story in that issue looks interesting as well, and may be a title I try depending on that issue.

I'm excited every year for FCBD, and this year will be no different.
