Marvel Has Begun Publishing of Star Wars | Omnibus Solicit for 2015

image

Star Wars: The Original Marvel Years comes out in January 2015 in their popular over-sized Omnibus format and will be collecting Star Wars #1-44 along with annual #1 from the original Marvel run that I loved from the 70's and 80's. This includes material written by Roy Thomas, Howard Chaykin, Archie Goodwin, Jo Duffy, and Chris Claremont, with pencils by Howard Chaykin, Carmine Infantino, Walter Simonson, Herb Trimpe, Michael Golden, Al Williamson, and Mike Vosburg.

I already own all 5 volumes of Dark Horse's reprints of "A Long Time Ago..." but I never cared for the smaller format they published it in.

I understand this tome to be volume 1 of 3 therefore I suspect volume 2 will collect another 45 or so issues, and probably include the RotJ mini series, and the third volume would likely finish the ongoing series and also include the Droids and Ewoks series' - just a guess. I assume that would cover all of Marvel's Star Wars material before they begin with new stuff...

I'd love this, but I find the Marvel omnibi are a little too bulky to read. I got the Simonson Thor omnibus when it came out and I also purchased the five volume TPBs as they came out. They're much easier to read than the omnibus. However, I love having all of the issues collected in one volume. I'm really digging the Epic collections that Marvel is putting out. It's a significantly less expensive way to get to read older issues (my LCS doesn't have dollar bins) and they look great.

Depending on how low I can get these for, I'd still like to own them. I have many of the original floppies, and all of the DH collected editions, but I have a feeling Marvel is going to do this so well I'd buy it all again...

I've got all 5 DH Omnibuses but I could see the appeal of this. I won't be picking it up personally, but I can see any big SW fan wanting to have these (3?) tomes in their collection.

    It's very tempting.

Yeah, I have a few very large Marvel Omnibuses that I haven't been able to read all the way through because they're just too much of a pain to handle. I'll wait for them to break the series down into TPBs.

I think Dark Horse has already reprinted much (if not all) of the Marvel Star Wars comics in trades over the past couple of decades. I know I have the movie adaptations that were originally published at Marvel, and I think a lot of the rest of the issues were reprinted in the Classic Star Wars trades -- as were the newspaper strips. I don't know if they're still in print; you might have to search for them.

Other than the final 7 or 8 issues, which I traded to Lone Star for a passel of comics, I have a full run of floppies, thanks to the low prices of easily available reader copies during the "dark years" from 1985-1990. Oh, how I loved poring over those Mile High "Specials" catalogs, so many years ago.
