    Saga
    Velvet
    Fatale
    Manhattan Projects
    Manifest Destiny
    Fables
    Unwritten
    East of West
    Bandette
    The Sixth Gun
    The Stuff of Legend
    B.P.R.D.
    Hellboy
    Mind MGMT

And that's just the current ongoings. I can list a lot more if you want to go old school or go into OGNs.

If you want to hand someone a graphic novel, I would recommend:

    Blankets
    Persepolis
    American Splendor
    Ghost World
    From Hell
    Maus
    Road to Perdition

What you choose depends on what types of writing they might already like (autobiography, history, crime, literary fiction, etc.).

Depends, do you consider pulp characters "superheroes"? If not, then I recommend the lines from Dynamite Entertainment.

If you do, old school GI Joe is (mostly) amazing.

I would love some of the ogn's or older stuff if you dont mind. I was thinking of trying completed material first before i get them buying ongoings lol

Lumberjanes isn't just my favorite non-superhero comic I'm reading right now, it might be my favorite comic overall right now. Such a fun series.

I've only read the first issue do far, but I've got the rest in my pile to read. It definitely got off to a good start. It feels like it would fit right in with the Cartoon Network lineup.

Unfortunately, the pickings have slimmed down this past year. The only Shadow appearances are the final couple issues of Year One & the Midnight in Moscow (Chaykin's "prequel" to his Blood & Judgment mini). There's a Trinity type series starting with Shadow, Doc Savage, & Avenger starting.

Doc Savage has been good. Flash Gordon is also picking up steam.

  • For me right now the non-super hero books that I am reading and loving are:

    Southern Bastards
    Outcast
    Flash Gordon
    Starlight
    Saga
    The Walking Dead
    Fables
    Rat Queens
    Shutter
    Star Wars
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero
    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
He-Man & the Masters of the Universe
Transformers (More Than Meets the Eye & Robots in Disguise)

I have also picked up but have not had a chance to read yet Winter World and Splinter Cell. I got the trade to the original Winter World stories, so I would like to read that trade first before I get into the new ongoing.

    Frontline Combat

    Other:
    The Wizard's Tale
    American Born Chinese
    Scott Pilgrim
    Cursed Pirate Girl
    Mouse Guard

How could I forget the funniest OGN ever created:
    The Cowboy Wally Show
  • Oh man, I totally forgot to include Mouseguard, Mice Templar, and Stuff of Legend on my list, but those I read in hardcover trades, so maybe that is why they slipped my mind.
  • Y: The Last Man
    DMZ
    Preacher
    Morning Glories
    Sex Criminals
    Stumptown
    V for Vendetta
    From Hell

And if you want to bend the rules a little:

    Hawkeye
    Runaways
    Sandman

I feel like it's actually easier suggesting non-superhero comics than superhero books. There are so many good ones, a variety of genres and most are pretty finite making it easy to just hand over.

How is Jason Aaron's Scalped missing from so many of these lists? It was the first thing that came to my mind!

Immediately followed by my boy @steve_bryant 's Athena Voltaire!
(50% off DCBS this month). :)

I'm glad to see people are suggesting Starlight. I really enjoyed the first issue but decided to wait for the trade.

    Older material:

    Bone
    Dark Horse Presents
Dick Tracy (I think a large portion of the old strips have been released in HC collections.)
Gene Roddenberry's Lost Universe (with covers by Bill Sienkiewicz and story contributions by Majel Barrett Roddenberry and D.C. Fontana!)
Grease Monkey (the Kitchen Sink issues. The Image versions were b&w.)
    Judd Winick's Road Trip
Lost In Space (the Innovation series from the 90's)
    Milk & Cheese
    Preacher
Star Trek (the DC issues are my personal favorites but I also love the Gold Key stuff)
    Tank Girl
anything from Eclipse Comics (I am especially fond of Laser Eraser & Pressbutton)
anything from CrossGen (personal favorites include Crux, The First and Sojourn)

    New material:

    Alex & Ada
    Dream Police
    Shutter
