Depression is a cruel thing. You learn to "Turn on" the world-to laugh or make them laugh.-While your brain eats at you like acid.
No, I understand that. I was just discussing depression with my younger sister (she use to counsel addicts & people who suffer from depression.) I was more just asking a rhetorical "how" & "why" he died.
Not to be morbid, but I expected to hear something like this twenty years ago. At this point I thought (hoped) he’d found a way to deal with the depression (other than the drugs). Instead he became one of the tens of thousands of the clinically depressed who will die by their own hand this year. I’m sure his death will bring some attention to the issue for a few days, maybe even weeks. Then we'll all sweep it back under the rug.
I'm sorry to see him go, but despite his personal sadness, he made the world a happier place. Something all of us should aim for.
I put this on my Facebook yesterday...my reaction to this:
Depression. I've dealt with it, and not just the "I feel sad" part of depression. If you are reading this, I give a damn about you, and you can always reach out to me.
"This guy's walkin' down a street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep he can't get out. A doctor passes by and the guy shouts up, "Hey you! Can you help me out?" The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole, and moves on. Then a priest comes along and the guy shouts up, "Father, I'm down in this hole; can you help me out?" The priest writes out a prayer, throws it down in the hole and moves on. Then a friend walks by. "Hey, Joe, it's me. Can ya help me out?" And the friend jumps in the hole. Our guy says, "Are ya stupid? Now we're both down here." The friend says, "Yeah, but I've been down here before and I know the way out." " Leo McGarry - The West Wing by Aaron Sorkin.

One of my favorite shows, and one of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite characters. And, yes, very appropriate here. Funny thing is that it sounds almost exactly like a Robin Williams joke, and I can just picture him acting it out on stage.
As someone who has lived my entire life living in the Bay Area, I was pretty much weaned on the notion that as a S.F. Giants fan I must loathe LA. The overwhelmingly vast majority of Hollywood actors claim allegiance to the LA Dodgers - I guess it just goes with the territory, but Robin... dammit, he was one of the good guys.

Mr. Williams, you helped me survive the journey from child to adult. I thank you, sir.

What can we do about suicide?
Lucky the best thing we can do is be there for people who think such thoughts. Talk to them

What a great performance.
And what a weird, wonderful movie that would never ever get made today.

Today, in a fitting tribute, State officials unanimously agreed to rename San Francisco's Waldo Tunnel to "Robin Williams Tunnel".
