Mad magazine!

I used to love the hell out of this thing growing up in the nineties. I've fallen off of following it in recent years, save given myself a challenge, I have the Mad Cd disk, which had the issues from its inception to 2006.

I'm going to read through all of them...and beyond. So far, I'm fifteen or so in. I figure I'll post notes or thoughts here.

To give the serious answer, though, I would be very interested to hear how the humor in these issues work so many years later. In many ways, you are reading from the point of view of an entirely different culture than those early issues were produced for.

I'll have to post images later, but some of it doesn't work so great. But others.....absolutely timeless. It's scary.

I think some of their biggest hits are the parodies based on comic heroes: Batman (Which was adapted word-for-word in Batman: Brave and the Bold), Superman, and Plastic Man.

I will say, the devil-may-care-attitude is prevalent in every single issue that I've read.


I love that this has had a consistent tone that I recognize, despite not reading for years.
