Does anyone know why the Amazing Spider Man Gang War story arc (#284-288) has never been reprinted in a collected edition? It is one of the few Amazing arcs that (to my knowledge) has never been reprinted.
Unknown. It was included in both the 40 Years of the Amazing Spider-Man (2004) CD Collection and The Amazing Spider-Man: The Complete Collection (2006) DVD-ROM so reprinting it shouldn't be a challenge.
Jim Owsley (aka Christopher Priest) I believe. Fun story. He wasn't on ASM for long was he? I was way into his Conan run (and still am) which came out around the same time if memory serves.
Quick- to Wikipedia..
EDIT: Quick check and confirmed- he did only write that arc in ASM.
I like a lot of his work- PM&IF, the aforementioned Conan run. I really need to read his Black Panther because I know I'll love it.

Priest wrote a column that are in part about the events that resulted in him writing that arc.

I'm not sure what the deal was for those GitCORP discs was but I don't think it was the same as a regular reprint situation (not that it would have any bearing on that ASM arc). As noted in the ROM thread, they seemed to be able to use issues regardless of licensed characters appearing in them. Maybe it's because they are scans of physical issues?
I loved those discs. I had gotten ASM, FF/Silver Surfer, and Captain America before they stopped producing them. $40 for every issue (well, the first 300-500 anyway) of a series? Awesome value, even before you could put them on your iPad. Now, if you can find one, it's like 150.00 (still awesome but so rare). I wish they would come back, but that will never happen in the post-comixology world we live in now.

I must've told too many people "Gang War (and Hobgoblin) storylines from the 80s is the peak of Spider-man" so they won't trade the issues.

It was my favorite Spiderman storyline when I was a kid. The grocery store I got my books at had a limited selection and Spiderman was not usually a part of it. I think someone gave me those issues and I just thought it was great.

There's still deals to be had. I got the CD version of ASM about a year ago for around $20 off eBay. No box or anything, just the discs in slim jewel cases--and they're the real discs, not copies. They're in PDF format so I can put them easily on my iPad. They're even better than the comiXology versions, because they're just scans of the pages. Includes all the ads and letters pages. Now, if I can ever find the time to sit down and read them...
