What Was Your First DCBS Order?

Somewhere around late 2005 or early 2006 I quit my local comic shop because I'd discovered getting discounted comics through the mail. Originally I was a Mailordercomics.com guy. In March of 2008 I switched to DCBS and placed my first order:

Young X-Men #2
Wolverine #65
Thor #9
Secret Invasion #2 (of 8)
Nova #13
New Avengers #41
Mighty Avengers #14
Mighty Avengers #13
Incredible Hercules #117
Guardians of Galaxy #1
Fantastic Four #557
Captain America #38
Avengers Invaders #1 (of 12)
Avengers Initiative #13

14 books, with bags and boards..$5.95 shipping..TOTAL: $31.36

I figure with today's prices and discounts I would have paid over $33 before even adding in shipping.

Looking at my order a few things jump out. First, Captain America was my favorite comic at this time. Thor was giving it a run for it's money though. My soon to be favorite book, Guardians of the Galaxy, was just beginning. Fantastic Four was at a pretty low point for me at this time..Millar and Hitch were a huge let down, IMHO. Young X-Men was my attempt to get into the X-Men and it was really, really good but it was canceled way too soon. It's also funny to see nothing but Marvel books here...this was obviously one of those times where I wanted nothing to do with DC.

I'm a relatively recent DCBS convert. My first order was placed on 6/5/2014. It reads as follows:

    All-New X-Factor #12
Batman '66 Meets The Green Hornet #3
    Dream Police #5
    Inhuman #5
    Justice League 3000 #9
    Justice League Dark #34
    Original Sin #7 & 8
    Original Sins #5
    Silver Surfer #6
    Sonic The Hedgehog #264
Trinity Of Sin: The Phantom Stranger #22

    The total came to $34.03.

Two things stand out to me the most when I compare this to my current orders.

The first is that this was during a time when I was still reading almost exclusively mainstream titles. The only two "indies" on the list are Dream Police #5, which I only picked up initially because I'm a fan of Straczynski, and Sonic The Hedgehog #264 because I've been a Sonic fan since the early 90's. Comparing that to the most recent order I've placed, which consists of thirteen items and contains only five mainstream books, presents quite a contrast. I partially have my wife's influence and encouragement to experiment with smaller publishers to thank for this and also the availability of literally EVERY title I could possibly choose from thanks to DCBS.

The second difference between my first order and now is the amount of Marvel titles I was still buying in the summer of 2014. 50% of my first order consisted of Marvel. I currently am not buying anything from Marvel and have no intention of buying anything from them any time soon. The last new Marvel title I purchased was Silver Surfer #15, which I pre-ordered on 6/5/2015.

Looking back, it's very interesting how much change can occur in just shy of two years.
