Hi... now for my question.

Hello my name is Quincey and I've collected some in the 90's and started again in the last few years.

Now I have a question. In the October 2016 previews page 83 is the nemo and dorry just below lady liberty's left eye?? It would be aquaman 12 or 13 according to the page... thanks!

Welcome aboard, @Quincey810! Hope I can help.

For your question, from the image of the cover of Aquaman 12 that artist Brad Walker tweeted, it definitely looks like a Dory and Nemo to me, color-wise (though Dory seems a little big, and they are not the right shapes, exactly, and don't have the anthropomorphized faces of the cartoon characters):

And because those two fish are on their own, away from the rest, and even are turned to face at each other, like they are relating, makes them stand out. Whereas the other fish on the cover feel more like background. These two even stand out in the smaller-sized image of the cover that would be in Previews.

According to cover artist Brad Walker on a Twitter conversation about the cover, the homage, if it is there (and, of course, they would need to be evasive about whether DC/WB are actually putting characters they don't own on a comic cover) what readers see in the image is due to the color artist, not him. And then the color artist chimes in to claim that it was not intentional, just a color choice he made. But, of course, to stay careful, he would have to say that. And I think they look different enough to pass, a clearly they are not the characters, at least, from a copyright point of view. But they are also just the right colors, and not SO different, as to be an easy homage to spot. Not to mention the way they stand out as you look down the cover from the figures of Aquaman and Mera to them.

But to my eye, to color them that way, it looks like an intentional, and well-intentioned, homage. As it is not like those characters are on the cover getting eaten, or are impaled on the end of a trident or something. But readers can judge with their own eye.
