BOOM! and IDW Solicitations for May

Spreading the announcements out as they come through the week, but doubling this one up to save a little front page space.

Boom! Studios

IDW

Some #1s and other things that stood out to me.

First, from Boom!

I always like when Boom! supports creator-owned (I assume that is what this is) series mixed in with their licensed stuff. This looks like a bigger one than usual for them, a 12-issue maxi series, starting with an oversized #1 issue--
CODA #1
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Retail Price: $3.99
Writer: Simon Spurrier
Artist: Matías Bergara
Wraparound Main Cover A: Matías Bergara
Intermix Cover B: Jae Lee
Incentive Cover C: Jeff Stokely
Simon Spurrier ( The Spire, Godshaper ) and Matías Bergara ( Cannibal, Supergirl ) present a broken fantasy world that’s perfect for fans of Mad Max and The Lord of the Rings.
In the aftermath of an apocalypse which wiped out nearly all magic from a once-wondrous fantasy world, a former bard named Hum (a man of few words, so nicknamed because his standard reply is “hm”) seeks a way to save the soul of his wife with nothing but a foul-tempered mutant unicorn and his wits to protect him…but is unwillingly drawn into a brutal power struggle which will decide forever who rules the Weird Wasteland.
Oversized first issue, with 40 pages of story content and additional backmatter at no extra cost!
12-issue limited series

    John Byrne’s X-Men Artifact Edition—SPOTLIGHT
    Chris Claremont (w) • John Byrne (a & c) • Terry Austin, Various (inks)
John Byrne’s run on the X-Men began with issue #108 and lasted until #143. The team of Claremont, Byrne, and Austin made the X-Men (which was already a hit series under Dave Cockrum) soar to the top of the charts in comics sales. They introduced Alpha Flight, and then created the near mythical storylines “The Dark Phoenix Saga” and “Days of Future Past.” These and the rest of their stories remain burned into the memories of collective fandom to this day, and have been the basis for several X-Men films.
This Artifact Edition will include more than 100 pages of X-Men covers, splashes, and pages from Byrne’s X-Men run. All have been meticulously scanned from the original art and reproduced to the exacting Artist’s Edition standards that have won IDW Publishing five highly coveted Eisner Awards (to date)!

And expanded edition of Lost Girls
    Lost Girls (Expanded Edition)—CERTIFIED COOL
    Alan Moore (w) • Melinda Gebbie (a)
The groundbreaking and controversial masterpiece of erotic comics, decades in the making, is now available in a sumptuous hardcover collecting all three volumes plus 32 pages of new artwork and commentary…
For more than a century, Alice, Wendy, and Dorothy have been our guides through the Wonderland, Neverland, and Land of Oz of our childhoods. Now, like us, these three lost girls have grown up and are ready to guide us again, this time through the realms of our sexual awakening and fulfillment. Through their familiar fairy tales, they share with us their most intimate revelations of desire in its many forms—revelations that shine out radiantly through the dark clouds of war gathering around a luxury Austrian hotel. Drawing on the rich heritage of erotica, Lost Girls is the rediscovery of the power of ecstatic writing and art in a sublime union that only the medium of comics can achieve. Exquisite, thoughtful, and human, Lost Girls is a work of breathtaking scope that challenges the very notion of art fettered by convention. This is erotic fiction at its finest.

Yeah, Coda from Boom! looks good. I’ve liked Spurrier’s stuff so far, and the art looks fantastic. I'll be adding this.

Byrne’s Stowaway to the Stars might be worth checking out, and I’ll definitely be getting Nate Powell’s Come Again.

Just read #1 last night. "Sid Vicious" haunting a teenager. It's awesome.
