Lots of elements identifiable from assorted comics, but at the core it looks like we're getting an adaptation of Amazing Spider-Man #13. Thankfully we're now in an age where movie people realise how awesome Ditko's designs were and it looks like one of his classics is replicated fairly faithfully here.

I like how this feels like its going to be a standalone movie. Superhero films can often get bogged down by their scope and their place in some trilogy of story telling. I would be very happy of this were a "bottle episode" for Spider-Man.

I know I went to Unbreakable, but apparently there was an article inquiring if Mysterio is essentially Syndrome. It occurred to me I wasn’t sure the reference initially. Then I recalled I’ve only seen that movie about 4 times; once about 15 years ago, 3 other times about 3 months ago when my daughter kept wanting to watch “the superheroes”.

I’ve never been a fan.
