NEW CRUSADERS from Archie Comics

So, we've had two installments of the NEW CRUSADERS comic so far. What does everyone think?

I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It has a great feel, quite similar to the old Len Strazewski and Mike Parobeck JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA series from the 90s. I loved that series, and Ben Bates has such a similar style to Parobeck that it's just a pure joy to read.

I'll admit right away that I'm an Old School comic book guy, so the digital reader aspect of this is less than thrilling for me. I'm going to be buying the hard copy when it comes out in August for sure. But as far as readers go, this is the kind I like. I hate the ones that give you panel-by-panel views. I'd much rather just be given the whole page, and be able to zoom in or out as I please.

I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes, and hope it's a success. I really have a fondness for these characters.

I will have to check it out when the issues come out. I have enjoyed the previous Crusaders comics.

Crap, I loved that run of JSA. Looks like I have to check this out. Looks like the first installment is free. I'll be back with my thoughts :)

There is an awesome issue of Arcchie's Weird Mysteries where the Crusaders show up, in a very Batman Animated type style. It's a great story, and the style fit the characters nicely.



I also loved the 80's Red Circle version of the characters, by Rich Buckler, etc.

All those issues are available as part of this subscription. There are no shortage of comics to read, and I'm assuming that the issues they selected as a part of this initiative are what would be considered the in-continuity past of the characters and current series.

Part 3 should be released tomorrow.

I think that the whole plan is brilliant. I just wish that I enjoyed reading comics on a screen. It will be interesting to see if young folks follow the creative team (from Sonic and Mega Man) to the New Crusaders, and if so, what they'll think of the old stories.

I know a good many of the people who are reading Sonic and MegaMan on another forum I frequent are planning on reading New Crusaders simply because Ian and Ben are working on it.

And part three came out today, and it has seriously hit the fan.

How does the subscription model for this work? The article I read said it was like "Netflix for comics".
