Back on the old forum - and maybe even the forum before that - someone (not me) found this site - www.fearlessreadersonline.com - which sold back issues fairly cheap and had $5 trades, some as recent as this year. The people behind it scour stores and trade shows for deals, buy in bulk, pass the savings on, and make money off shipping (I'm guessing).
I just ordered 10 books from them and paid less than $40 for them. $37.75 to be precise, with shipping included in that number. If you consider the average trade is $15, it would have been $150 minimum otherwise.
Now, if you knew about a site that did stuff like this, would you broadcast it? Probably not. So someone on here (and this time it was probably me :) ) started talking about how I didn't just spend x amount of dollars for x amount of books at this site which doesn't exist (putting a link to that part of the text).
And it took off from there. It became the site which doesn't exist, where we don't buy books at extreme discounts, and you don't know about it. If it were real at all. Which it isn't.
Peter called us out on it once because he thought the joke was stupid...and maybe it is. But just because a joke is stupid doesn't mean we won't keep telling it! :)

Yes that's pretty much the story...if such a website actually did exist.

I hope they make a little off of me, on my orders, as I don't have them ship it... I'm in the same city as they are! In fact, from where I'm sitting right now, at work, I could be there in 10 minutes (home is 20-25 minutes away).
I'm not 100% sure how they make any kind of profit, but they must for the biz to continue, I would guess. I'm not questioning the whys - I'm taking advantage of their existence as long as they exist! :)

Well I sold them about four or five long boxes this spring of stuff I probably couldn't give away. Bill gave me $100 credit. Now seeing all the money I saved with him the last three years I think I more than broke even but maybe made a profit. :) Really enjoy doing business with them.
My only disappointment is not buying that Thor 171 that was in the silver age section over the last two weeks because its gone now! :(
they're back up and running their sale, thought it was just through the weekend but still going on right now, i have all the Buffy Omnibus now and I think I'm out about 30 bucks

Not that an order to an imaginary place would do someone any good.
All I picked up were some Shi trades and a few how to draw art books, though, so the pickings are still ripe!
If any of this were real, though... :)
