i love me some Blakes-7 and have seen the whole series innumerable times and i would dearly love a DW style relaunch but...im not so sure about an American version.
That Is certainly a valid concern. They are in the midst of a sort of reboot already on the audio front and I know Paul Darrow has been working on a , passing of the torch, sequel for a decade but clearly if they are starting again from whole cloth there is no reason to be involved...apart from his inherent awesomeness. If this reboot is equevelent to the Battlestar Galactica or star trek reboots then hallejuia! But catching lightning in a bottle like that is rare.
I still played my PBS recorded VHS tapes until recently when I acquired a new copy of the entire series through...dubious means.
See I had a few episodes recorded from when it was airing on PBS. But they were recorded on Betamax. Every con I goto has at least one dealer selling bootlegs of the series. But the price is too high. Last con they were wanting $75 bucks for the complete series.
Yep same dealer had the original V tv series as a bootleg set.And was wanting $30. When you can get a legit release of that set for $10 all over the place. Needless to say I didn't see him selling much merchandise that weekend.
Hey @Caliban thanks for pointing me in the direction of that podcast. It is a nice short but interesting show and right up my alley. I subscribed on I tunes after just a couple episodes. You are awesome.
Loved Blake's 7 when it was aired on PBS in the '80s, but haven't seen it since. I'm pretty sure that, like others here, I acquired it a few years ago online through "dubious means", but they're lost in a box somewhere. I really need to track those down and re-watch them.
I remember as a kid being amazed at the amount of turnover in that cast. It seemed like they bumped off a few every year.
heck yeah! i mean you had a show called BLAKES 7 that ran for two seasons with no Blake! Looking back on it from a strictly story point of view it is really brilliantly put together. i would love to see this show get the Battlestar galactica treatment.
I think it sounds like a great idea and I'd love it to be a Battlestar Galactica style reboot. Like Mike though I have doubts about whether the characters would sit comfortably especially in a US show as basically its about a group of theives and crooks being led by known terrorist (who in the first episode is discredited by being framed as a child molester). So a show in which the main heroes are terrorists would be a hard pitch I think. However lets see what comes of it.
Incidentally there were some superb audio stories made by Horizon the fan club back in the early 90's which are worth tracking down. The Mark of Kane and Logic of Empire.
I've heard both if those I think! Pretty sure I borrowed them from My buddy Madcap. He has gotten two big finish audios a month for the last, what? 15 years maybe? The single largest Doctor Who collection I've ever seen. Every book, (target, bbc, virgin, what have you) audio, and episode (as they exist at this point) in continuity order.
I used to be a regular Big Finish buyer getting all the releases back in the days before a mortgage, kids and other expenses. It just not possible to continue these days and £15 is a lot for a new cd. Its a shame because I'd really like to hear the new Blakes 7 ones.
My mum had a complete run of B7 on VHS, from the late 80s/early 90s, 2 episodes at a time... used to love it as a kid when a new vid would come out every couple of months, as that was the first time I'd ever seen it.
Wouldn't say no to a reboot, as the special effects were terrible when it came out, but it was a great show despite that, and that last episode will always stay with me...

And we will be returning to the subject of Blake's 7 next year
