What's up with Marvel Boy (Robert Grayson)?

I just recently flipped through an issue of Fear Itself Homefront to see if I wanted to pick it up (behind the times, I know), and I was surprised to see in the Agents of Atlas story that Marvel Boy looking like a cross between a grey alien and one of those Mars Attacks guys. Can one of you helpful folks explain what's going on there? I tried asking google for the info, but I can't find any mention of the appearance change.

Marvel Boy was recently renamed "Protector" (possibly the lamest superhero name of the last decade). He was briefly an Avenger, but he blew it and they kicked him out, branding him a Traitor (in a story with artwork by Walt Simonson, where poor Protector looks constantly sad). Didn't think it was really in line with the character. Most likely the last we will see of Noh-Varr for the next 5-10 years or so.

oops... wrong Marvel boy. I should read more carefully before shooting my mouth off.
I'm a little foggy on Agent of Atlas Marvel Boy. Something to do with his spending much of his youth on Uranus, and having his DNA spiced with alien DNA for survival in that environment (?). I think he was wounded in an issue of Agent of Atlas and needed to be healed by his spaceship technology, which caused him to transform further into an Alien (totally not accurate).
