It'll be interesting to watch sale figures on this. Will people stick with it because they've grown to like the character, or was the bump in popularity purely the Johns faithful who will now move on?
@LibraryBoy I agree. I'm actually surprised the plan was even for him to stay on much past 12. Back in the day, with titles like Booster Gold, he would do the first year and then hand it off to sink or swim.
I was kind of hoping he had a long term plan for the title, like with Green Lantern, but it looks like this is another situation like Flash or Booster Gold - give the series a push and hope someone else can run with it.
I really hope it doesn't nosedive in quality or numbers now. I plan on giving the next team a shot, because I like Aquaman and I'm really enjoying this book (even though I'm not much of a Johns fan), but I question how many others are just as willing to give it a fair shake now.
Aquaman is my favorite character, and I have been LOVING this book. Johns and Reis turned it into a great book, and is morphing into a sort of team/mystery book which has been spectacular. I'm afraid the numbers will continue to drop until it's cancelled again, unless they get some other superstar creative team.
I just subscribed to it, so I'm in for the next 12 issues regardless of who's on it.
Well for $1 an issue delivered to your door how can you go wrong?
I am wondering if Joe Prado will be asked to pencil the book. He usually works with Reis as an inker, but they have similar styles. That would keep the book looking very similar at least. For the new writer, I'm going to take a blind stab and say it will be Peter Tomasi.
@David_D I am trying to go all trades and the change in the creative team is a good excuse for me to drop the title. If the new team is good, I will browse through it at the store and possibly add it back to my DCBS order. I am far too cynical at this point to believe that DC is going to f/u Johns and Reis with another strong team. I know it is not going to happen but my reoccurring nightmare is that the next team will Tony Daniel and Rob Liefeld
Man everyone sure is cynical anymore. I am really bummed about them leaving too, but I doubt DC is going to give this book C-list creators since it's one of their top selling books of the last year. Maybe you'll enjoy the next creative team more, at least hear who they are at least before you write the book off. I still think it will be people that worked on Arthur in Brightest Day, at least that way the art feels the same and the writer already knows how to continue Johns' story.
I agree that waiting to see who the next creative team will be is probably the ideal way to go. The problem is that I carry the weight of 25+ years of history being (mostly) disappointed at creative management decisions with the Big 2 that causes me to be cynical with each creative change.
