I have noticed the new line of trades for DC that I assume are replacing the old Showcase titles?
DC is putting almost everything into trade now. The formats of those trades are all over the place. Golden Age material of the trinity is being printed first in Omnibus format, then in smaller paperback. The Silver Age is getting the Omnibus treatment but it has not started in paperback yet, although I think a Silver Age Supergirl paperback edition is slated for later this year. The bronze age is largely being ignored except for Batman. The Post Crisis era is seeing whole runs being printed in 6 to 8 issue trades (Byrne Superman, Grell Green Arrow, Ostrander Suicide Squad, Etc)
Marvel seems to be sticking to its Epic Collections line, an occasional Omnibus, and the hardcover Marvel Masterworks series. I know that there are Epic Collections slated for the rest of this year but I am not sure how much longer Marvel will let it continue. Large chunks of the classic core heroes have been printed and now they are starting to dig deeper into their catalog. I could easily see them in a year or two dropping this and creating a new line of trades to start the reprint process all over again, leaving gaps in everybody's collections as usual.
Due to Gerald Jones current "legal issues" - being arrested on child pornography charges - it appears that DC will be canceling the upcoming Justice League Breakdowns and Hal Jordan vol 2 trades which feature Jones as a writer.

Just looked up that. Geez if my lawyer said something like it is important to distinguish between these charges and violent offenses, and I was pleading not guilty, he'd be looking for another client, and I'd have a new lawyer.
I don't know what Gerald's defense is (it might just be to buy some time for a plea deal), but boy that is not a good story.

Yeah, basically the lawyer just told everybody that Jones is guilty of "something" and is going away for a while but should not go away as long as those really bad people.
On the non serious side of this, that era of Green Lantern was just starting to get traded again (the Hal Jordan vol 1 is in my DCBS box arriving this weekend) and it looked like it was going to get a full run printed much like the Grell Green Arrow, Ostrander Suicide Squad, and other Post Crisis series. Now, regardless of how this case turns out, this era of Green Lantern will probably never see the light of day again and there will never be a complete traded run of JLI.
Not sure if it means anything but Barnes & Noble (at least my local one) reduced the space devoted to Superhero trades by 3 cabinets. This reverts the expension of a couple years ago.
It looks like the store has increased its Manga stock to fill the void.
I decide to stop at Barnes and Noble since I had a gift card with some money left on it. I noticed they had a buy 2 get the 3rd free Image sale. So I picked up the first trades of The Wicked & The Divine, Black Science and Southern Bastards. Only problem now is which to read first

Superman: Man of Twomorrow. This one is a little suprising. When the solicitation first came out, I wondered why the book was being released in hardcover since every other Post Crisis Superman collected edition (Except the Death & Return Omnibus) has been in paperback. Besides not wanting/ordering a hardcover edition, I cannot think of a reason why this is being cancelled.
Not much for me on the Marvel side. There is a new edition of the Simonson Thor omnibus. I have the recent trades of this run which I am good with. There is also Epic Collections of early Fantastic Four and Captain America. The Cap one is the only purchase that I need as it uogrades to color issues material that I only have in the essentials collections.
The DC trade releases of older material continue to be great.
There is a Justice League International Omnibus that collects the first five trades (I think). This is a buy just in the hope that a volume 2 gets the greenlight. Most of that would be unpublished material.
The 80's Supergirl material gets a second volume. The Silver Age Supergirl run starts in trade (for those that skipped the Omnibus edition and want to upgrade from B&W showcase)
Batman Year Two plus the issues right after gets a hardcover edition called Batman The Caped Crusader. I wonder why this is being released as a hardcover. This is Batman so I doubt it will be cancelled like Superman: Man of Tomorrow recently was but you never know. Not sure this deserves the HC treatment.
