@Wetrats you made me wonder what my first Legion issue was -- I'm pretty sure it was one issue later -- this one. (I read several Superboy's earlier than this, though, some of which should be popping up in my random draw.)
Seeing Man from Atlantis covers, I immediately jumped to Frank Robbins, who drew a few issues of the series. I know a lot of people hate his art, but I really like his stuff, especially his Johnny Hazard newspaper strip and Shadow comics. He wasn’t particularly suited to superheroes, except for maybe when it came to The Invaders. I think this issue may have been my first exposure to his work (I was eight), and one of his better comic book covers:
I didn't hate Robbins' art, but I was off-again, on-again about it since it could look pretty awkward at times. I liked it best when he was doing his own inking, and I think the couple of Batman stories he drew were pretty good. What I liked best about Robbins was his writing at DC; it's a shame he never did any at Marvel.
I wonder if they'd dare to put a "still only $3.99" on today's comics.....
Give them a couple of more years. There was a time when I was boggled when comics went up in price to 35 cents -- unheard of!! -- and shocked when just a few years later they said "STILL $.35"! The prices only go one way: up. I foresee a day when the average 32-page comic will cost ten bucks -- and we'll be upset that they can't hold the price at nine.
(Sorry @Wetrats! ;-) I know how you feel about Boris.)
I loved the Marvel Frankenstein, especially those last few single issues by Val Mayerick. I don't think I even got to read the magazine story above (with an interior story written by Gary Friedrich and with pencils by John Buscema) until the Essentials volume.
Mayerick just did the interiors of the last few floppy issues except for the last one, I believe, but I loved this last cover with pencils by Val Mayerik and inks by Bernie Wrightson! (skipping ahead to 1975 for this one).
@nweathington Oh, no doubt -- LOVE Ploog and the Ploog issues...they were just before my "buying off the stands" time by a bit (or I at least missed them), so didn't get to read them until much much later. Some of them not until I read the Essentials a year or so ago!

I was also reading Son of Satan as a young kid. Which is weird cause of how religious my mother was back then.

This was the issue that explained the scars on Jonah's face.
