I'd say it's a safe bet we all dig music in some form. A lot of us like to listen while we create or read these funnybooks. Rather than the usual "What's your favorite?" lists or "Desert Island?" topics, let's go a bit different:
1) What's a song from the past year (2011-Present) that you've really enjoyed?
2) What band/artist have you recently "discovered" that you like?
3) What was the last CD (actual physical media) that you bought?
4) What was the last mp3 (or single file audio track) that you bought/downloaded?
5) What are you looking forward to - music-wise - in 2012?

1) "Heading Back to NYC" - Joan Armatrading. Great little opening riff and a fun bassline that sets the tone for it. I found myself humming this one quite a bit over the past year.
2) The Decemberists - Hooked me in with "The Rake's Song" and I've been checking out track after track by them and enjoying what I've been hearing.
3) For myself - Megadeth Anthology (2-disc set). Of all the speed-metal bands I always felt Megadeth had the best riffs and talent behind it, even if Mustaine is...well...Mustaine. For the wife - The Skyrim Soundtrack. Great music to listen to while you're doing whatever it is you're doing.
4) "Surrender" by Angels and Airwaves. This is the band I wish I'd created when I was still playing. They are the sound I'd always hoped to create.
5) New albums from my favorite band - Marillion - and a new Joan Armatrading album (and hopefully tour!!!)
1. "Beloved" by April Smith and the Great Picture Show. It swells and I find quite poignant.
2. See above, The band did the song for the Valspar commerical, "Colors," and check out their album, "Songs for a Sinking Ship" Great album all around.
3. Def Leppard's Vault: 1985-1995. Best band growing up for me.
4. "Elvis Presley Blues" by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals (going to see them live Apr. 27th, whoo-hoo!)
5. Checking out Bruce Springstreen's new songs, maybe. For me I tend to just go with the flow and let new music come to me. Podcasts take up too much of my listening time to really get serious about music.
1) What's a song from the past year (2011-Present) that you've really enjoyed?

5) What are you looking forward to - music-wise - in 2012?
Sigur Ros "Valtari" - I don't care about my disclaimer, this still wins.
Aside from that in a more generic sense, I hope the trend is away from pop "personalities" and more towards talent and indie groups.
"Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People is still pretty great... I chalk it up to the bass line and the fact that it's this bouncy, upbeat, head bobbing song about people getting shot.
2) What band/artist have you recently "discovered" that you like?
Young Fresh Fellows. I recently found a sampler for a split CD they released a few years back with The Minus 5 in the "Free - Please Take" box in front of the campus radio station and really liked it, and only really knew them from getting namechecked in a They Might Be Giants song, so I want to find out more about them.
3) What was the last CD (actual physical media) that you bought?
Pretty sure it was the last Juliana Hatfield album, There's Always Another Girl.
4) What was the last mp3 (or single file audio track) that you bought/downloaded?
Either "Alone" by Heart or "I'm the Doctor in Utah" by Murray Gold and the BBC Orchestra.
5) What are you looking forward to - music-wise - in 2012?
Nothing specific. Just finding more good music. But I wouldn't say no to another New Pornographers record, that's for sure. I don't know if one's on the horizon, but if so, it'd be appreciated.
Kelly Hogan's new album.

If that doesn't interest you then maybe start there still, then jump to "( )", then to Takk, and then Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust.
Takk and Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust are a bit more easily consumed and have some catchy-ass songs aside from being brilliant. I also HIGHLY recommend you watch the official videos to as many of the songs as you can. They are moving and powerful and the video for Hoppipolla actually goes down as one of my favorite short films of all time. It is genius.
Just know that the language of most everything up to the recent stuff is not Icelandic but "Hopelandic" a made up language of sounds with no direct meanings but almost more meaningful in a way. Also, the frame of mind you are in and the surrounding matter. If you can chill out, slow down, and be able to concentrate and focus it is much better, otherwise it is easy to get distracted and have it fade into the background (not a bad thing but not a good thing when you are trying to get into it). Also, don't fight it, if something doesn't do it for you move on. I've found that I love songs I did not like initially and stuff I used to love is now secondary to other songs.
They are great people and great musicians and I really think you'll love it.

2) Caravan. (Thanks, Pandora!)
3) "Octave"-The Moody Blues.
4) I can't remember--it's been too many years since I last tried to use the iTunes Store. Now that I finally have a new iPod, perhaps I should get back in the habit.
5) "Thick as a Brick II" by Jethro Tull!
2) Tie between Sweet Madness and Terror Couple. Sadly both groups broke up in the late 80s
3) Spokanarchy Soundtrack
4) Hank III the official bootlegs 1,2,3
5) Nothing really
Now I have never been into pop or much mainstream music. Even as a kid back in the late 70's I was listening to the Ramones,Devo, and stuff like that. But I will say for anyone into 80's punk rock get teh Spokanarchy soundtrack. It is loaded with lots of very obscure bands. Most of which never had an releases and were unknown outside teh Spokane Washington area.
2)Probably Marion Call. Went to the Kracklefest show at ECCC, and though it started and ended with Adam WarRock and Kirby Krackle who I love, but she was in the middle, never heard her before and I loved her performance. Amazing voice, great songs and incredible stage presence.
3) Within the past little bit I bought Gold Parts by my friend Cristina Bautista and her band Gold Parts, and on the weekend I bought Adam WarRock's War for Infinity CD at Kracklefest.
4)Probably some of the pieces from Kelly Fenton's Bottomless Cup Jazz Orchestra's Infinite Crisis Suite.
5) My favorite band, Starflyer 59 is soon to put out their first independent album in the beginning of next year. Also another of my favorite bands Five Iron Frenzy, is finally getting back together to record after breaking up when I was in High School. And I finally got the Wild Flag album for Christmas, and I can't wait for those ladies to do more stuff.
Soundgarden? Hmmmm
Buckcherry? Uh....... NO..... >:P
Like the DD, FF and Elektra soundtracks, you might have 2-4 decent to good songs on here and the rest will be blah. Just give me an incredible musical score and not this. I will end up buying it anyways, I always do.
Joss understands that music is a character itself in the movie and I think the majority of the movie will be a score and these songs will be coming out of car radios or over the end credits. I wonder who he did get to do the score.
By the way, if you want to listen to some awesome soundtracks then find anything done by Bear McCreary. He did all the Battlestar Galactica soundtracks along with Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Caprica, Eureka and a few others. His work is well worth a listen because they are interesting music and not the typical orchestral score that you would expect.
